Best Gift Ever!

I was going through my little bag of baptismal stuff for some reason and came across my little bonnet that I wore. There was a poem with it, about how I will wear it home from the hospital as a baby, and all I have to do is take out a few stitches and it will be my wedding hankie on my wedding day - 'because I am told, any well-dressed bride will have something old....' - I was bawling like a baby. It was from my first cousins grandma, 31 years ago. She was a very nice lady and passed away about 7 years ago. I never knew about this gift, or the poem, until just the other day. It was incredibly emotional!

Re: Best Gift Ever!

I'm using mine as well and will most likely make a baptismal dress down the line out of my train.

Re: Best Gift Ever!

I actually posted a link to how to make your wedding day hankie into a baby bonnet. I think that is a wonderful gift to give a baby girl.

Re: Best Gift Ever!

Well I believe they sell them both, ones to wear on christining and then turns into hankie for wedding and then vise versa.

Usually you can buy in little gift shops. Usually Irish gift shops will have them. Lit boutiquey baby shops too.

the one I bought for my godson I bought at Mcguinness in brooklyn.

good luck

Re: Best Gift Ever!

I will post the poem next time I stop at my parents. What it was was a hankie that she bought, and then she sewed it herself into a bonnet, and all you need to do is snip a few stitches and it turns back into a hankie.
