I went to a jeweler recently looking for wedding bands and the jeweler said i needed to have my e-ring steamed (whatever that means). I use jewelry cleaner but I'm wondering if there's a better, all natural, way to keep my ring sparkly. I read somewhere online that soaking the ring in windex for 15 minutes will do the trick, but I'm not sure how it will react with white gold, which I was told will eventually fade and reveal the yellow gold under it.
Any suggestions? TIA

Re: best way to clean e-ring?
I soak it in amonia and water with 1 small tiny drop of dish detergent - this is what my jeweler said to do. Then I use a soft toothbrush and brush over and around the diamonds.
When I want a quick cleaning, I have been holding it up to the spray in the shower, the steam and power of the water really makes it sparkle. Just make sure you have a drain guard in place so you don't loose it! I do this almost daily and it really works.

I use dawn dish soap and a toothbrush to scrub it

I've gotten dish detergent on it just from washing a dish with it on but I think my detergent leaves a residue or something -- maybe the dawn makes a difference

i use toothpaste
so do I..I saved my old toothbrush and I just take a little paste and brush the paste all over, then I rinse it all off using hot water.

I was afraid to scrub it with a toothbrush because I heard the bristles can get stuck in between the prong and the diamond and loosen the setting -- knowing my luck this is exactly what would happen and I would lose my diamond.

Re: best way to clean e-ring?
Steaming is good and tahs what the professional jewelers do.. My neighbor owns a place out of his house and i always bring my jewelry to get steamed!!! Also i have never heard of a white gold ring or jewelry revealing the yellow unless it has been once yellow and dipped to be white.. Hope that helps!

Maybe 5 mins or so. Usually I forget it is soaking and leave it a big longer
Don't think it matters but mine is platnum. Same stuff should work for white gold though. White gold will always wear away over time (should takes years) so I wouldn't worry too much about the cleaning wearing away the white gold part. I have heard people getting thiers redipped for not too much money (like $30).

.
yes you can even put in in the micro for 20 sec to heat up then soak your ring.
this will make is sparkle
if you dont have amonia you can use windex (it has amonia in it
steam is good too FH bought me the jewelry jet and its amazing!!

oh, I had no idea how long it would take for white gold to fade -- I've always bought yellow gold or silver. $30 isn't bad!

Re: best way to clean e-ring?
believe it or not, i use the milk frother in the espresso machine to steam clean my ring sometimes. i just put the ring in a cup of water and use the frother. it seems to do ok.
