PJ wanted to practice our dance tonight. Turns out he was counting on doing a waltz while I was content to simply sway.
Well thanks to NeenieBean and her dance dvd...Ive come to the conclusions :
1) I cannot dance
2) FH cannot dance
3) we cannot dance together
4) our song isnt great to dance to
5) we look like spazzes when we take it too seriously
so is it ok to screw up the cherished 1st dance? I like it better when we are laughing and joking around when we fool it up

Re: Beyond Nervous and Freaked Out
Jenn, I think you and PJ need to be yourselves...that should take the pressure off!
I'm sure you both will make it memorable in your own special way

Re: Beyond Nervous and Freaked Out
Trust me- you will be so in love and happy you will float on air. My DH and I are the WORST dancers- we get made fun of seperately on this issue often(for me, think Elaine's dance on Seinfeld). On our first dance we got a zillion compliments and asked where we took lessons! NOT! You will surprise yourselves!

Definitely just be yourself and have fun/ Don't be stiff. Just look into each other eyes and really enjoy the moment.

You'll be FINE... and it will be perfect--- because it will be your first dance with your HUSBAND!

Re: Beyond Nervous and Freaked Out
Jenn, I was CRAZY nervous about our first dance. But it was actually one of the easiest parts of the day. I'm telling you, you will look at PJ and the whole world will fall away. It will be just the two of you, and the music and everything will be fine. I promise!

DH can't dance either and it was nice to just be with him and sway

Re: Beyond Nervous and Freaked Out
We were going to practice the first dance, but then decided not to because we figure that we will be so happy/nervous/excited that no matter what we practice, we will just soak up the moment and dance freely anyway.

I went to a wedding where the B and G took lessons. Nothing against lessons, but they looked so stiff and forced. They wanted to make a good impression, but ended up looking very awkward!
Be yourself, you seem to have a good sense of humor, don't hide it!!!
Have a wonderful ay and have FUN!

I have seen this too and I COMPLETELY agree. There is nothing worse than watching a bride and groom count silently as they dance.
Jen, don't worry about this. All you have to do is sway a little. The crowd expects you to be kissing the entire time anyway. Also, who are you trying to impress? Everyone there LOVES you and is happy for you. Who cares if you don't dance well. Weddings aren't about the perfect dance, they are about the perfect match.
If this is your BIGGEST concern this close to the wedding, you have it a LOT easier than most brides. Just relax, enjoy yourself and revel in the fact that by this point in the day, you will have satisfied your objective (to be married). The rest is just for fun.

Re: Beyond Nervous and Freaked Out
What everyone said is sooo true....you will be fine and it will be amazing since you are dancing with your true love on your wedding day.
Reading these posts bring me back to our dance and how special it was....people thought we practice d it or it was choreographed but we just did what we felt like doing and we sang to each other---it was so beautiful as yours will be!!

Have fun with it. If you're too serious it will look horrible in pictures. If you're having fun you'll be laughing, and those are great pictures.
