i have been trying to collect milk that leaks from the boobie 'not in use' - so over a period of a day maybe i get like .5 ounce. Question: As I collect, I refrigerate. Can I take the refrigerated container out and collect right into what is there? Or should I collect in a different container, cool it and add to the refrigerated one?

Re: bfing collection ?
I would collect into a different container and add it to the refrigerated one after. I am basing this on what I feel comfortable doing, not what I have read anywhere. Anyone else know?

I have heard what Victoria said, but to be honest, I just added it to what was already cold in the fridge.

Re: bfing collection ?
IN all honesty, and based on my opinion and my 'Chattin with the moms' (I Bfd for 3 months with JOhn Anthony)
This is one of those things like 'You sterilize everything with the first child, and ya kiss it up to God with the 3rd and 4th child'
You CAN do what Niha does. I did it all the time.
Funny story - I had gone to a Dr's apptmt and left a pumped bottle for my parents to give JA incase he got hungry. On my way home I calculated the time as maybe 4 hours since the bottle 'was out' (of the fridge) if they hadnt fed it to him yet. I quickly, from the car, called an LC and asked how long until it was ok to feed the baby that bottle and I cant remember what she said, but I panicked so what she was wayyy past, maybe 2 hours? Well by the time I was pulling into the driveway by then, on the phone, and I was heading right for the bottle to throw it out and......YEP YOU GUESSED IT, there goes my dad, with a baby in his arms, and an empty bottle in one hand, saying 'BRAVO BRAVO, BRAVO JOhn Anthony' He was so proud that the little guy finished it clean. So I laughed (still on the phone with the LC) and she laughed it off, and after her 'whats the right thing to do' speech, and hearing what just happened, she laughed and said 'he should be fine' (of course if he spit up or looked like he had a tummy ache, then we know it was the milk, but she said it shouldnt be a problem, being that it had already happened....
and I was kinda happy that he drank it, because seeing breastmilk go to waste is heartwrenching to the mommy that produced that liquid gold

Re: bfing collection ?
I guess I was not clear or I misunderstand Anna. I always added milk to one container over a 24 hr. period. BUT, when I pumped I did not pump into the container of cold milk. I used a clean bottle and poured it into the cold milk in the fridge afterwards. My reasoning was mostly beacuse I has a few spills happen. I would rather lose 1oz. fresh milk than 6 oz. of combined. I also forgot about the milk a few time since I got busy changing the baby, etc. The fresh milk can stay out 8-10 hours. If it was in with the cold milk I would not have used it after 10 hours of it sitting out.

I have done both. If I have only a small amount of refrigerated milk I will pump right into that bottle. If I have a couple of ounces in a bottle I will usually pump into a new bottle and pour into the refrigerated bottle. I dont know what my reasoning is behind that.
I did once read that you should cool them both first before pouring them together but I dont really know why one would have to do that.

Re: bfing collection ?
At the BF class I took, the LC said to pump into a new bottle, cool it in fridge, then add to the collection bottle that is already cooled. She said not to add warm milk to cool milk for bacteria reasons.

That's what I thought I had heard. But I am sure that is super cautious. I think it's probably fine either way. I will try to do that....Thanks guys for all the advice!
