If your dog is crated during the day, what do you keep in the crate to keep them occupied?

Re: Big dog owners
My FILs have a 160-lb canne corso, and now that he is grown, they really don't have to keep him in a crate. They also have a smaller dog and 7 parakeets, and he is fine with them. They still have the crate for when company comes, and it has a huge flat dog bed that fills the entire bottom of the cage. When the dog was younger and was crated during the day, they would give him one of those kong toys (the absolute biggest one they could find). You fill it with either peanutbutter or easy cheese, and keep it in the freezer. Give it to the dog right before you go, and it'll take him a few hours to lick through the whole thing. Can also put a few chew toys in there, but in their experience rawhide just gives him tummy problems.

Golem is only in his crate for about 4 hours in between the time Craig leaves for work and I get home - so he's only in there for a half day. We really can't leave anything in the crate with him because he's a really agressive chewer and we are not comfortable leaving him unattended with chew toys, even Kongs. We used to have a crate bed in there for him, but he was eating it and we were scared that he'd choke on the stuffing or it would get stuck in his system, so we actually had to remove that as well. He's MORE comfortable without it though, he loves sleeping on the bare tile or rugs and he's just as cozy in his crate with just the plastic bottom. Craig also takes him for a long walk every morning, so he's usually so tired after the walk that he'll sleep for the next several hours. Golem likes his crate, he just hangs out in there and sometimes we have to bribe him to come OUT he's so comfortable sleeping!

When Tiger was crated, we would put his toys in there. No food or water goes in their crate. Oh and of coarse a blanket which he kept chewing

Just a Nylabone. We tried a blanket for a while but it encouraged her pee-ing so we took that out quickly.

Re: Big dog owners
we never put anything in Bailey's cage...we don't crate her now anymore so she has access to her rawhides and bones.
