Big Hotel Rant - VERY IMPORTANT

Original post by TheLadyJ

Anyone who wants to know the name of the hotel needs to FM me. It is much easier for me to reply that to send you all separate FMs. Or you can just read my mini-review.

My sister's wedding was last night. All I can say is - you Crest Hollow Brides have nothing to worry about. The reception and Cocktail hour were AMAZING. Great food. Great service. Everyone was treated like royalty,

Now - imagine this. You get off the shuttle bus at the hotel at about 1 am. The parents of the bride and groom go to check in, and they are told their rooms - which were reserved a year ago - are no longer available. The hotel overbooked.

Now imagine the bride, after having a fairytale wedding day, standing at the front desk crying while some snooty night manager gives her an attitude. Can you imagine?

I have never been more appalled in my entire life with the level of disrespect my family was treated with last night. I understand mistakes can be made, and sometimes things like this can happen. But what I do not understand was why this person gave my sister - the bride in her wedding dress - an attitude about the whole thing. Instead of apologizing and saying she would remedy the situation immediately, she instead told my obviously very upset sister 'It's not my fault, I wasn't here when this happened', and proceeded to tell us we were exaggerating when we said they had ruined the wedding night. They did in fact ruin the wedding night, because who wants to keep partying when you have to scramble to find 3 rooms at 1am. Especially when the rooms are the for the parents of the bride and groom and the 83 year old grandmother of the bride.

She also, later in that night when I went to get her name and tell her that her behavior was inexcusable, walked away from me while I was talking to her. She again proclaimed that 'it wasn't her fault' and I told her that since she is the manager on duty it is her JOB to remedy a situation and NOT blame the other people on staff. She point blank refused to talk to me and walked away from the desk and went into the back. This was while other people in my wedding party were also waiting for her to call them cabs to another hotel. She left us all standing there at the desk.

The manager this morning was much more accomodating and apologetic. But it still DOES NOT excuse what happened last night. We were told by the first person that 'a code was put in to override the rooms.' It was then later blamed on the hotel booking system for overbooking.

My brother in law works in the hotel industry. what he basically said is that on a holiday weekend, they can get alot of money for a room. He is of the opinion that they gave away these rooms, which had been booked at a very low rate, to last-minute arrivals for double the price.

FM me if you want to know which hotel. I'll write a full review about the whole wedding later, but I wanted to let you know that just because you have a confirmation number and a room booked a year in advance doesn't mean that when you arrive at the hotel your room is guaranteed.

Oh, and this didn't just happen to us. About 20 minutes after we left, another bride and her entire party came in. The bride and groom's room had been given away - along with 8 more rooms belonging to their party. We had gone outside to decorate my sister's car and when we came in there was another hysterical bride in the lobby. I spoke to someone in her bridal party who told me all 9 of their rooms were no longer available.

Tell your sister to call the hotel chain main hotel number /customer service ask right away to speak to a supervisor and tell them the entire story. They should give you back all the money and also give you free hotel stay at one of the hotels in anywhere in the country.

Def complain!!! Also if you write a hand written letter and Fedex it to the main customer service line they will call you ASAP and help you.

That really stinks and that should never happen to anyone on their wedding. But, I'm curious, why didn't everyone check in earlier especially since it was a holiday weekend?

hmmm....sounds exactly like what the Holiday Inn Express in Hauppauge did to me....oh wait, you got a shuttle? we had NO shuttle driver (they had a random hotel employee drive our shuttle bc they FORGOT to have a shuttle for us) then they also gave rooms away...and better yet, double booked room so that my friends getting ready for our wedding had complete strangers walk in on them!

doubt it was the same hotel since it was in hauppauge...but i just saw so many of you are looking into booking hotels, just wanted to warn you about that one! good luck!!

OMG THAT'S DISGUSTING!! You should definitely right corporate about this experience and how it'll affect your and your entire guest list from returning to their hotels. That actually happened once to my mom and I. We flew down to South Carolina to see my older brother graduate from boot camp and when we arrived at 9pm (mind you we had late arrival guarantee on our reservation) we were told that our room was given away and that they were booked to the max. Needless to say we flipped out! They got us a room 20mins away at another room, but we had to then check out of their the next morning and RE-check into the first hotel the next day. It was a miserable experience, but unfortunately lots of hotels do this. Now my mom and I re-check our reservations 2 weeks before a trip whenever we go somewhere just to make sure our reservations are still valid. I can't believe they did that to you though. What d*uche bags!

I am just so thankful my FH checked my sister and her husband in. We made surprise gift baskets for them and we wanted to put them in the room. Plus, I didn't like the idea of my sister having to deal with checking in after a long day.

So, we checked them in and left the key at the front desk. Can you imagine if they had given her room away,

Also - the shuttle was NOT from the hotel. My sis paid another company.

Yes, my mother and all of us plan to call and write everyone in that company to complain about this. We will settle for nothing less than to have that terrible manager lose her job over her attitude and disrespect towards my family. That woman has no business being in the customer service industry. To yell at my sister, and to then walk away from the counter while the rest of my family was trying to get cab rides home - that is simply unacceptable.

And to then screw up the reservations at the new hotel, and give them smoking rooms with one bed - it is all just so unbelievable.

OMG.....that is horrible. No ne should have to go through that on their wedding day. That manager definately doesn't have any business in a customer service position. You have FM.

This is ubsurd...I'm fuming now....How dare this woman think she has the right to be a manager with such an attitude. The cops would have been called if that was me...UNACCEPTABLE!

I'm glad you enjoyed the wedding though!

My dad wanted to call the cops but what could they have done? People were already in the rooms. He wanted the hotel to kick them out, but they really can't do that. The people had no idea they were given rooms that belonged to someone else.

If this had happened to the groomsmen, you had better believe the hotel would have needed to call the cops. There is no way those boys would have gone away quietly.

Sorry to hear that your sister & family had to go through all of it. That is unbelievable! And to top it off she's the manager, you would think the company would train their staff on a professional level. The same thing happened to me at my wedding except it was not with the hotel, it was with the limos. We booked the Rolls Royce and two limos. The two limos were for DH and his family and the other limo for my family and the Rolls Royce was to transport myself and BM's to the venue. At the end of the night, the two limos arrived to pick up our families to drop them back home. I was told they don't have any other car to drop off myself or DH home!!! We were left in front of our venue at 1AM across from a highway to try to get car service. Unfortunately, some of these business are just plain dishonest, they could care less if they screw up the bride & groom & their wedding day.
