Who has one and how do you have it set up in your living rooms? Do you have it in an entertainment center or alone? For those that have it alone - where do you have things like VCR, dvd, etc.
I have a 50' and it fits nicely in a corner of the family room but we have all the other stuff on top of the tv. DH likes it but I kind of think it looks sloppy. I can only get a really really skinny entertainment center to fit it in that corner and it would probably have to be custom made and not sure how it will look really small. I am torn what to do. We had it this way in our apartment but not sure I like it in my house. We have like 6 things on top - vcr, dvd, cable box, receiver, stereo, cd juke box - they all hook into the speakers and receiver for best sound (at least per DH - I could care less about surround sound and everything else).
Anyone have pictures or theirs setup....

Re: Big Screen TV's
I absolutely refuse to get a big TV for that very reason. We have a 36 inch now and I hate that its out in the open and its the first thing you see.
Hopefully we will one day have a flat screen that I can switch to some fabulous artwork when we are not watching :D

Re: Big Screen TV's
We have a 44inch tv and with it we bought a stand for underneath it where we have or cable box, DVD player, Replay TV. It all looks very neat because its behind glass!! Like you Niecy...I do not like the clutter on top of the TV. I have some candles on top and we bought an antique mirror and some sconces to hang over it (we havent done that yet!! )

Re: Big Screen TV's
I have seen some nice looking surround style units for those monsters . Sort of a tower/bookcse on each side, some with doors. Do you have to keep it in the corner?

This is not permanent. We haven't decided what we'll be doing when we remodel. There used to be a piece that went over the TV and connected to the towers, but FH threw it away before I met him (I forgot his reasoning).
edited to add...excuse my messy cds.

Re: Big Screen TV's
I bought john a 65in for a wedding gift, although I dont have a picture, we have a wall unti built around it
My DH just won a 42 flat screen plasma TV and I am still trying to figure the best way to set it up. On our HM we were in a suite that had the flat screen and when you turned the TV it was a picture I really liked it. But I wonder if I would have to have something custom made.
Has funiture caught up to the new media offerings?

Re: Big Screen TV's
This is ours (50 inch)-FH built a smaller entertainment unit to just hold vcr/stereo/etc...
Thanks guys - you are all helpful but i still have no clue what to do. Since my living room is a long rectangle - find the best viewing position for this kin dof a tv is hard. (I think the long rectangle is really what I am having problems with - i can't even decide what furniture to go with!) Also the room has skylights and sliding glass doors - so there is a lot of light again making it hard to find the best viewing angle. It sees to be most effective to put it in this one corner - it can be viewed from the most angles - the issue is the tv takes up the entire corner. The old owner had almost the same tv and had it in the same spot as I am considerign but they did not have as many componets attached as we do. But we love our big screen so I will have to work harder to figure it out and make me and DH happy.
There are alot of units I have seen out there for big screens. I seen a lot of nice ones similar to Jenny5150 - with the bridge on top but they just are too long for where I would like to put the tv. Then the speakers are the stand/bottom - so you can put it on a regular bottom stand...
Stacey we bought our wall unit from furnakit also! It has the bridge so you can fit any size tv inside. No big TV for us yet, waiting for this one to die first. Maybe I should cut the wires when DH is out?

Re: Big Screen TV's
We have a big screen TV I think its 50'. I love my big screen but to me its usually in the way and I purchased it about 3 yrs ago. Hubby and I have talked about it and when we buy a house we are planning to buy flat plasma tv that we can just hang in the wall, this way there will be alot more space.

Re: Big Screen TV's
DH brought a big screen TV to the marriage so we have it in our living room. We came up with a pretty nice set up with shelves that are above the TV (bolted to wall) and them a wall unit on each side. The shelves that go across look like cubbies and there are 5 rows so it's about 25 different nooks where I put pictures an other decorative doodads. We are moving this week so everything is all over but when I have it set up again, I will try to post a pic.
