Biggest adjustment when living together?

Original post by the future mrs m

My fh is moving in on July 1st !! Yay! I'm sooo excited.

I'm wondering what was the bggest adjustment you had to make when you and fh moved in together?

And what's the best part about living together?

I'm so excited about getting rid of our gardener. (FH says he'll mow the 1 acre yard!!!) Savings$$$:)

And I'm super excited about him cooking and having someone help me clean the house. It's a lonely job to do by yourself. :)

Yeah it's awesome, I love it too. We didn't really have any adjustment to make either.. it was very natural. I think it's because we're very similar in a lot of ways, like neatness and how we like to spend our time. My favorite thing is that I always know he'll be around.. like I never have to wonder when I'll see him next.

The only real adjustment I had to deal with when I moved up here & we got an apartment together was getting accustomed to his schedule(he's a cop). He worked midnights, so I only got to snuggle with him 2 nights a week
But I did get very used to him not being in bed with me, and I guess I became a bed hog when he was there!

After the first year, he got switched to a day tour (he gets home around midnight) and I had adjust myself to him sleeping in the bed EVERY night! So now I get to snuggle

Guys are messy!
That was my biggest adjustment.
And sometimes we all need some 'me' time.
It's all worth at the end of the day when we can cuddle together in bed!

I posed this queston to fh last night.
his answer 'never wanting to leave the bed!'
Can't wait! No seriously, he also added how much he's going to love not havng to say goodbye at the airport every 10 days. (we are long distance right now- VA to NY).

I would also have to add going from 'Mine' to 'ours'. That was hard for me, especially b/c I lived by myself for so long that it was hard for me to give up most of my privacy. Those are my issues though. Other than that, the transition was smooth.

We had no problems adjusting to living together at all. We have been living together and keeping all of our finances joint for a while now - no problems then or now. We love living together!

Then again, we're pretty similar people (FH is even neater than I am), and my FI is pretty easy-going. We also work similar schedules / go to bed at the same time, etc. Make it easier I think!

FH and I are moving in together the 12th!!! Everyone says our big adjustment is going to be the fact that he didn't get to go away for college and ahs never not lived at home- and while he had tried to move on campus, he could never get housing cus he lived too close. So I have been on my own for 6 years and he has never lived away from home- so its going to be hard at first I think. But itll all work out and be good! :)

The biggest problem for me is the bathroom situation....He takes HOT showers and it gets muggy and then I cant do my hair...ughhhhh nerve wracking

the adjustment period was surprisingly smooth! the one thing i wish i could change is his habit of throwing clothes on the floor and not putting them into the hamper! (2 feet away of course) or eating a bag of chips or something and then leaving it in the living room.

it took us about 6 months or so to adjust, i never lived outside of my parents home so i went through a bought of home sickness.

then it was about splitting chores and cooking and picking up after one another.

we finally got into a routine and we are both happy with it..

now we are enjoying each other and it is awesome to live together!

just remember to communicate!
oh and kiss every night before bed!

Re: Biggest adjustment when living together?

well, i have been pretty much cleaning up after him for as long as I have been dating him, lol, so I was used to that. (I will always hate the whole near the hamper vs. in the hamper debate!) but I think our hardest adjustment was me getting independence. For years now, I have been with him all the time, at his house (specifically in his room - he lived with his mom). Now that we have our own place, my taking time away from him to cook, clean, shower, do my hair, check my email, etc. (all things I would do at home before getting to his house) are like a shock to him. It is really kind of funny.... But I think he appreciates the time I spend doing things like just sitting watching TV with him more now. It's all fun though, and pretty seamless for me!

Biggest adjustment: Chore division (we still fight about it), esp cc WHO replaces used products (eg: milk).

Best part: Coming home.

The biggest thing was for him to adjust to the fact that I want him to go out with his friends WITH OUT me.... I am a big fan of significant others having their SPACE>..... I do not like someone around all of the time... Abscence makes the heart grow fonder.... He has some annoying habbits but so does everyone.. Its just coming to a compromise and for the things that are a part of him and his personality I wouldnt want to change.... I am not all for the idea of 'I love you now change'

Fh and I will be moving in together in about 3 weeks..I keep pushing the date back.lol...Im trying to get enough 'me time' before I lose it all completely. He has the HORRIBLE habit of getting out of the shower and NOT drying his feet and walking all over the apt to find his clothes. Needless to say I step in the puddles with my socks.....

Re: Biggest adjustment when living together?

You'll love it! I moved in with my FH 7/1/06. The biggest adjustment was trying to make his place ours (incorporating my things, what stayed, what had to go, making the place less masculine). He was a good sport about it though. Since your FH is moving in with you, he may not want any changes.
I remember the one month and three month marks thinking 'We did it' and we still love each other. I was so worried that we would drive each other crazy but we love it.
The best part is when I walk in after a long day and he's there, occassionally with dinner cooked. I still get butterflies when he asks me what time I'll be home.
Like the other brides, I want to scream when I almost fall into the toliet because he left the seat up AGAIN. But when I get in the bed and feel him beside me it's all worth it.

It was really natural for us. I had to make no adjustments that I can think of. The best part is having dinner together everynight and being able to fall asleep in his arms every night. We have lived to gether since about 2 weeks after we met almost 3 years ago and still have never had a fight.

biggest adjustment was the lack of 'me' time. I lived alone for 4 years before moving in w/him and I still miss being by myself sometimes. its something you take for granted!

Re: Biggest adjustment when living together?

We never defined anything and it just came sort of naturally but if one of us cooks the other cleans up & does the dishes. I do the laundry, he mows the lawn, etc. We both throw our clothes on the floor so i can't complain about that one lol
