Binghamton NY Wedding

Anyone ever been to a wedding in or around Binghamton?
If so where was it and how was it?

TIA

Re: Binghamton NY Wedding

My bro is getting married there next May...upstate weddings are a bit different...not as formal, not as much food....there are a lot of beautiful RHs there though...

sorry, I'm not much help!

Not that this helps or that you care but I went to SUNY Binghamton - so I got excited when I saw this post.

I mostly went to frat parties and got drunk at bars downtown, so I don't know about wedding venues.

My guess would be that one of the surrounding areas would be better. Binghamton its self is not really known for its beauty

I'm also a SUNY Binghamton alum. My college roommate got married at the Holiday Inn in Vestal. It was a lovely wedding, but very different than a NY/Long Island wedding. It was much less elaborate. The CH was cheese and fruit. Dinner was normal hotel food. I know one of my friends (also from upstate) gave the bride and groom a bagel cutter and magnets as a gift. Lots of gifts, as opposed to money like down here. HTH

Yup..it was in one of the Banquet Rooms at Binhampton College (I think....) The room was AWESOME and HUGE!!! They had only 1 table for CH- just some cheese and crackers and crudite...Dinner was a Buffet and the bar was closed for an hour between CH and Dinner.

Everyone had a blast though...I can post some pics tomorrow if you'd like. (and verify the location)

I thought Binghampton was beautiful!! With all the mountains in the background!!

I forgot that I also went to a wedding there about 5 years ago, it was held at the VFW- but the room was really pretty and it had a nice mountain view!

Don't have pics of that one...sorry

Yeah, the mountains are pretty. think I stopped appreciating them after 4 years up there!!!

I guess my point is, the more suburban areas, like Vestal, are very nice. The City of Binghamton itself is in need of economic development and growth. The Southern Tier of NY is actually very beautiful, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing.

another Binghamton alumni!

I feel like most 'upstate' weddings are less formal than a NYC/LI affair. JMO.

Re: Binghamton NY Wedding

Thank you ladies all so much.

We are looking to do something less formal and understand that this is the case. Most of the places that we have looked at only offer the cheese and fruit cocktail hour BUT it can be upgraded slightly. We intend to add shrimp cocktail and 2 or 3 other pass arounds.
sucky thing is that the standard is 4 hour open bar (1 hr cocktail & then 3 after dinner) no big deal I guess as long as the DJ can announce that the bar is closing so people can stock up LOL

I am waiting to hear back from holiday inn vestal and holiday inn Binghamton arena - Binghamton around the college isn't that bad but we plan on staying outside of downtown.
We are currently looking at the purchase of a 3 family home in johnsoncity so we know the area (house would be for investment)

everyone that will be coming is from here. His family has only been up there for under 10 years so we are not too concerned about gifts, we are sure everyone will be giving an envelope.

thank again for your input
hopefully e can find someplace soon. I feel like time is running out but we still have over 1 1/2 years LOL

Re: Binghamton NY Wedding

I went to Binghamton as well. My DH and I went to a wedding there in the beginning of September and it was very different (granted I think that is how they wanted it). They had it a park with no entertainment and no alcohol. I am assuming most weddings up there though are not like that.
