What is everyone's take on these? Do you think they're bad for babies? I have mixed feelings about them, so I just wanted to ask your opinions.

Re: Binky's...
We use them...especially very early on. Newborns have an incredible need to s**k - and since I was BFing I didn't feel like being a human pacifier on top of everything else. I let him have the binky after I weaned him as well.
At this point - he's 8 1/2 months - he only gets it when he's really tired or upset. He likes to chew on them when he is teething so sometimes I will let him but I am slowly trying to cut his time down. The ped says there is no rush at this point to wean him off. I always felt on a personal level that I'd rather have him s**k on a binky than his thumb - the binky habit is easier to break. And besides, if it is comforting to them, why not? Just my opinion...

Emma has never had one... well she has never taken a bottle either so Im sure that had something to do with it.

Re: Binky's...
Im sure I posted this before, but John Anthony LOVED his binky. It brought him many nights of comfort and good sleeps
I weaned him from it with no problems at all, at 13months.
I agree with Lee, if it brings them comfort, why not?
ITs a personal choice. My sisters son was BF exclusively, and never had a bottle or a binky. Now, at 20months, his thumb is still his best friend at times so Im glad I was able to take away the binky. cant take away the thumb. If they need to suck, they will suck on anything that comforts them... go for it.

We use them too. I wasnt crazy about them at first, but when I saw how calm she got when she had something to s**k on I couldnt deny her that. Like Lee said above, newborns have a NEED to s**k. It is one of the few things that they are born with the ability to do. I have read many articles on the pros and cons and while somw were negative, most said that it is not harmful and at least you can wean them off of it when you feel that they are ready. You cant take their thumb away.

Re: Binky's...
At 19 months (today) Geno still takes a bink!! However he only takes it in his crib to nap and then to go down for the night. But when he naps at school he does not take one and when we are visitng my parents he does not take one to sleep there. So I can live with it. It was my intention when he was born not to give him a bink ever, but that went out the window my first sleepless night! LOL!! Do what you are comfortable with!!

Sophie got a binky in the NICU and I couldn't be happier! It makes the day a little easier.

Re: Binky's...
Damien hated the binky. At first I didn't want him to have one or a bottle for that matter, but that had to do with BF'd.
When he was using me as a pacifer we tried and he would just spit it out.

Re: Binky's...
Before Rebecca was born, I vowed NEVER to use them! But, I got over that within the first month. I don't use them often, but it does seem to help at times. I use them if she wakes up in the middle of the night and is upset, and when she was sick, I used them after I gave her the medicine (to make sure she sucked it all down), and sometimes, when she's overtired, I use it to help her calm herself down. I try not to overuse it, because I don't want her to get to NEED it too much, but for now, at only five and a half months, I don't think it's hurting her.

Re: Binky's...
That is actually a big debate in my house right now. But Emily seems to be deciding on her own that she really doesn't want it. She doesn't need it to sleep, she only takes it for a few minutes a day when she is really stressed out. She is beginning to teethe and I think she likes to suck on it. My problem is that my 3 yr still uses it to sleep & nap only and is extremely attached to it - she refuses to give it up and my husband doesn't want to go through the same thing with Emily. It has also caused Amanda's teeth to curve on the top
