Birth certificate??

Hi I am little confused, do you need your birth certificate to get a marriage license?? Is there any office that anyone knows for sure that you don't need it?? My FI doesnt have his-so I am freaking out-I looked on the Town Of hempstead's website and they just say 2 forms of ID, one photo--does that sound right??

If he was born in NY state (not one of the five boroughs) and needs one, you can order one online (I had to, still can't find mine anywhere!)

I called Town of Oyster Bay and was crying

DH did not have a passport and I did not have birth cert. She said no!
She told me to go to Hempstead and they are more relaxed and accept most documents. Good to know!
I went to Hempstead and we were done in 30 min.
I showed passport and liscense
DH showed Birth cert and NYPD ID
EASY!

so you went to Hempstead-what if he only has his driver's license??
I am getting married 7/2--I am late or just in time to get one--I am getting nervous!!!!

ugh..I'm going threw the same problem, I had to order my FI's birth certificate online and it's going to take 5-7 days to come!!

Yes, you need a birth certificate. If you were born in one of the five bourghous (LIJ counts) then go to www.nyc.gov/health. You can order a new one that is certified and acceptable (I just did this.) It costs $15, plus another $15 to expedite it via UPS, which I highly recommend.

I want to order one for FH but he's being weird about it and says that his mom has it. But his mom is really disorganized and it wouldn't surprise me if all she has is a copy. I don't know why he's being so reluctant to order a new one. I might just do it behind his back for peace of mind if his mother doesn't give it to him tomorrow as she promised.
