Re: BIRTH CERTIFICATE??
i hear that if you go to one of 5 boroughs of the city--your license is enough.
in long island they usually require the certificate.
for a certified copy you would either have to send away for it or go to the town hall of the town that you were born in...and request one in person.

Re: BIRTH CERTIFICATE??
I think you can order one online- try googling it... but are you sure you need a birth certificate- there is a list on the NY State DMV website of acceptable proofs of identity- they might accept passport/ ss card or something?

Take a look at the Department of Health site.. it gives you the information.

I went to Hempstead to get our license and we needed our birth certificates. Without them they said we couldn't get the license.

Re: BIRTH CERTIFICATE??
Just get your license in the city or any of the 5 boroughs...all you need is your driver's license.

Probably easier that way- DH and I just went to where ever was closer and faster for us which ended up being Hempstead Town Hall.

Re: BIRTH CERTIFICATE??
I just had to go last week to get a copy of my birth certificate because when I applied for a passport they lost it! You have to go to the town hall of where you were born, it cost $10 to get the copy. There is a form you can fill out and have it sent to you for $15 bucks... but when I did that they wrote back saying they could not find my records So I just went to smithtown town hall and it took two minutes! Good luck!

Re: BIRTH CERTIFICATE??
If you go on the website, there is a list of things that they take in lieu of a birth certificate.
