birth control help...

hi all

i dont know why i thought this was a good idea but my obgyn suggested that i switch to yasmin even though i have been on estrostep for years. she said something about it is better on yasmin to skip having your period for your wedding/honeymoon.

does anyone have any experience with yasmin or with switching birth control pills. i am SO nervous that it is 2 months to my wedding and im making my hormones all out of wack for no reason!!!!

thanks

Re: birth control help...

I was switched to Yasmin about 6 months ago and I absolutely loved it! I also had to switch the cycle around for my HM/Marriage, and did not run into any problems.

If you have significant concerns, though, you really should speak with your OB-GYN - they know more about your medical history than any of us on here!

I am on Yasmin now, and really have no issues with it. I have been switched quite a few times due to my body's sensitivity to birth control.

Just one warning...after I was on it for about 6-8 months, my chest 'grew'. I am so NOT KIDDING! But since your wedding is in two months - you won't have to worry about that...and maybe it was just a side effect that hit me...someone who doesn't need it!

I would suggest you stick with your birth control and just use the packs back to back. People spend money on Yasmine which is silly since you can do it yourself with your own pills. Instead of doing the sugar pills (without hormone) just start a new pack after three weeks. That way you will still skip periods and not have to worry about any side effects to new pills. By the way i'm two weeks shy of being a doctor and i'm sure it is safe to do this.

First - Congratulations on becoming a doctor, thats so great!

Second - I have a question. I did this a few months ago b/c I was going on a cruise and I spotted alot during the week. Is it safe to stop taking the pills in the 3rd week so you get your period a week early and then starting a new pack the next week?

Now let me state that I am not going into gynecology so I dont know those type of specifics. I dont think it would be safe to not finish the 3rd week. as far as i know the only week you can play with is that last week with sugar pills. all the other pills have hormone and cant be skipped unless you use some other type of protection.

I have been doing this for about 4 years!! My gyno told me that its actually healthier to skip your period now and then (since nowadays women have their periods earlier in life and longer in life than in the older days).

All you do is skip the very last week of pills (which are the sugar pills that initiate your period) and continue with the next pack. so say that the last week starts on sunday. Well you throw out the pack and you take the first sunday pill in the new pack. that's all. It's very simple and very easy.

Re: birth control help...

I'm on Yasmin and I love it - I've actually lost weight since I've been on it. I also had a lot of trouble with other BCP, but I found this to be more gentle (not sure if that's the right word, but I'm going with it).

I do have one friend on it who said she's been breaking out since she switched, but I never had this problem, and my other friends on it love Yasmin too. For all she knows the breakouts could be completely unrelated. I'd talk to your doctor and express your concerns.

I've heard if you stop your pills early it'll increase your chances of pregnancy, and I'm not sure you'll get your period right away ... it still may come the expected week. But then again, what do I know!

I'm on Yasmin now and haven't had any negative side effects from it. I haven't been on any other pills to compare it to though.

I've been on estrostep for years and have skipped my period several times, including for the wedding/HM. I've never had a problem from skipping it.

I was on yasmin for a few years...it was great! But you don't have to change pills to skip your period...you can do that with any pill i'm sure....you just skip taking the sugar pills and start a new pack right away.
I think sometimes you may get spotting though, it only happened to me one and was only for a day.

I was on Yasmin all last year. I loved it but my body seems to get used to them after a while, that was the only reason I switched. Good luck.

I have been on yasmin for 3 years and I love it.
I didn't gain any weight nor did my mood change as it did with others.
Although I agree with what other girls have said you don't need to switch pills to skip a period. Just start a new pack right after you finish the active pills.

Re: birth control help...

I'm on yasmine now, I switched after years of the same pill- I had some break through bleeding in the beginning- but my dr told me that was normal. I tend to spot a lot so it may have just been me. And don't worry about skipping your period with the last week of pills- I was under the impression that they had iron or something in them- but the bottom line is that they're blanks--no hormones- I have done it more times than I can count & I'm fine- it's just a little more expensive of a habit since you go through packs faster! That pill seasonal is the one where you only get your period 4 times a year & I talked to my dr about that but when we figured out that it was more expensive we decided I'd just stay on yasmine & skip the last week 3 months in a row, then finish a whole pack- so it's definately safe! Good luck!

I was on bc for probably 13 years. have tried various different brands that were OK for a while. Initially i never made the connection. I was on Yasmin for 2+ months and it make me CRAZY. The mood swings were awful. I was super sensitive. I felt like every emotion was exaggerated. I stopped the pill cold turkey one year ago and have never felt better. I know the pill works great for alot of people but just wanted to share my experience. I wish i had realized years ago that the pill was affecting my moods so much. I will never take it again. Many of my friends have had similar experiences. Just be in tune with yourself and be aware.

I had a similar experience with Yasmin. I was on it for 4-6 months and then gave up. I'm very hormone sensitive though.

I have been on Yasmin for years, I dont really have problems with it. It is a very light dose of hormones so it is really important that you take the pill at the same time everyday, otherwise you'll have spotting. Many good side affects weight loss, chest growh, less cramps, but I do know someone that did get pregnant while taking them. Don't know if she missed a pill or anything(i never asked) but I never got pregnant and I been on it for years.

i've been on yasmin for 4 months. I like it , I'm not moody at all, and it doesn't make me nausoes. I seem to have lost weight, not good bc I'm already underweight, and my chest did grow, good other than that, I haven't had any side effects.
