If you're looking to actually have babies, just be sure to ask your physician how long it'll take after you stop taking it before you can conceive. Some of the methods have quite a long waiting period (months to a year) before you body readjusts and allows you to conceive....
I thought you are more likely to be fertile and get pregnant once you get off the pill I had to stop taking it for a couple of months.. and was sooo nervous that i was going to get pregnant, so i wouldnt let FH near me!

I don't know if you're more fertile or not after you stop taking the pill but usually your doctor will let you know a certain amount of time after you've stopped before you can start trying to conceive... the hormones in the BC pills stay in your system and aren't good for a developing fetus.... or something like that. A friend of mine was told 6 months after she's been off the pill she can start seriously trying.

Technically this is how it works, because the hormones that stopped you from getting pregnant while you were using the contraception might still be in your system. It is possible that you can get pregnant right away, but it is just a warning that depending on the form of contraception you use it might take you longer. But that's the same as how it's possible to get pregnant while on the pill. Nothing is full proof except no sex, lol...

LOL my sister got pregnant both times less than a month after going off the pill - it was funny bc it was like one week she was saying ' oh we are going t o try and maybe in a few months we will try more seriously' and then the NEXT week she was like 'um i have some big news. . .' LOL
that is why if i like skip a pill i freak out - crazy fertile family! LOL
oh yeah and girls taking the pill experiencing low 'libido' he he i hate that word - i went on LoEstrin 24 and noticed a SIGNIFICANT improvement with that - and i also am not ridiculously depressed any more and a crazy person . . .well just not AS crazy!

So good to know. I've been on the Pill for 8 years, and recently switched to Yasmin b/c of an insurance issue, and it was the WORST - I cried every day for 4 months, and my libido went from normal to nonexistent... as in, when I'd feel bad and try to do it with FH, it actually hurt (TMI, sorry!). So I figured I'd just stop taking the Pill because why did I need it - we were only together once every 6 or 7 weeks anyway (poor FH!). But now that I'm off of it... of course, I'm myself again.
So I'm glad you started this thread because I've been wondering the same thing, about the ring, the patch, etc. I figure it's all the same chemicals anyway, just coming to you in a different form? So if I had a problem with the Pill, wouldn't I have a problem with those? The first 7 years I was on the Pill there was no problem, but my experience with Yasmin scared me so much, I'm afraid to take ANY pill now, actually. If I want Loestrin I'll have to pay for it - my insurance co. doesn't pay for that brand. But I guess $40 a month is worth it.

I'm on Loestrin and I really like it, however I changed insurance and they don't cover it either... I've been being charged 54 dollars!! I think that price is insane, I don't know what to do though!

If you go through target pharmacy it's a little cheaper, maybe $40, dont' quote me on that but I'm sure you can call and ask. Also, when my insurance didn't cover it, I asked my dr. for samples and she gave me 3 packs (score!)

Re: Birth control other than the pill??
Question: I have been on the pill for about 7 years now and my libido has disappeared. I have been on ortho-lo. Is there a better pill. Im sure the FH will be pleased if i switch.

you can do the patch, the shots (depo provera, I know I spelled this wrong but that is how it sounds). or the nuva ring there is also really scary other stuff that I won't bother mentioning. I have no personal recommendations on any of them but I took a class on this stuff.
I dont recommend depo provera (you spelled it right btw)
I was on it and it was a horrible experience

Re: Birth control other than the pill??
Really the difference between the different pills is different levels estrogen and progestin, different types of progestin and the way they are delivered... some have a constant level of hormones throughout the month, while some increase every week, or some even increase once in the month. It's really a trial and error type thing... what works well for one may not work well for another. You just have to work with your doctor and explain your symptoms/side effects you are experiencing that he/she should be able to help you out with a contraception method that's best for you!
And as far as price... I find that Walmart and Costco tend to have the cheaper prices. And most other pharmacies do price match. So if it's more convenient for you to go to a different pharmacy you can usually get the price online from somewhere cheaper and bring it to your local pharmacy! I know Duane Reade does this from working there!
