birth control pills and sun tanning?

is it ok to sun tan outside (not a tanning bed), while on birth control pills?? i think i heard something about it. thanks so much girls!!!

i never heard of being on the pill and sun tanning being an issue

Everyone has different reactions but there is definitely a link between the pill and the sun...my friend developed patchy brown spots on her body and her doc told her thats what it was from. I never had that happen, but i know that many medications have interactions with sun exposure.

Certain bcps will cause dark patches or blotches to appear when you are exposed to the sun. I don't know if it depends on the brand or not, but Ortho-Tri-cyclen has this as a warning, as do many of the millions of bcps that I've tried over the years. So, check the insert info packet that comes with yours, or go online.

If you use sunscreen (as we all should anyway ) then you should be ok, but call your pharmacy or doctor to make sure.

When I was on the pill, the pack had a little sticker on it that was a warning about staying in the sun too long. I noticed that when I was on the pill my skin was much, much more sensitive to the sun, burning much easier...
