Birth Control recommendations?

Hi Girls,

I need to go on a new birth control pill because something shady is going on with the company of my old one. I can only get the generic form and after 1 month of taking it I broke out and gained weight! Can anyone recommend a pill that will not make me gain weight, break out or make me crazy? HA. Thanks!!!

What have you been taking? I have been on Yasmin for two yeas with no problems. I have also hear Nuva Ring is great cause you do not have to take pill each day.

I just started LoEstrin 24 - you take more active pills so you get shorter periods, i just started it so i dont want to 100% recommend it yet
i dont know if it is because it is a low dose pill or just a different pill but i feel SO MUCH MORE LIKE MYSELF than with my old pill (apri- generic form of desogen i think). . .i love it already!

I love Loestrin - I hardly get any PMS and my period lasts for 3 days. I didn't gain any weight and no skin reactions - but each pill will affect everyone differently so you may want to speak with your GYN.

Re: Birth Control recommendations?

anything with the lowest dose would be the best - like orthotricyclen lo as opposed to orthotricyclen. it's formulated to give you only what you need when you need it - too much any you will gain weight and be a little crazy! =0) you're probably on a pill that comes in a fairly high dosage.

in the meantime, if you drink a lot of water, it should help you a bit. the weight you gained is most likely water weight, so the more you drink, the more you lose (as crazy as that sounds). your body knows it's gonna get a lot of water then, so it doesn't feel the need to hold onto what it has, and you loose! (a bit anyways). plus water is good for breakouts and pretty much just a good thing altogether. oh! also stay away from lots of sodium.

good luck!

I changed mine about 6-7 months ago...I am now on Estrostep which starts out with a lighter dose and progresses a little every week.....no complaints so far.

Yasmin, no problems!

I have a birth control pill baby... Robbie was concieved while I was on the pill.

I also have a condom baby... that would be Noah!

The only thing that works certainly for me, doesn't involve hormones, remembering or injections...

Mirena. It is an IUD and it is completely maintenance free for up to 5 years. If you decide you want a baby sooner - go to the gyno and he will remove it. Easy peasy!

Re: Birth Control recommendations?

I've been on Yasmin a few years now. I love it because it gives me no side affects like weight gain, breaking out, etc. but recently I've noticed that my sex drive has been a lot less than it used to be... I don't know if that has to do with the Yasmin but I've heard from other girls that they have experienced that too.

So I was planning on making an appointment with the Dr to look into switching-- but I'm in the same boat as you, I don't want any side affects. I will talk to her about Ortho-tri-cyclin Low because I have heard that it's similar to Yasmin minus the decrease in sex drive. So check that out!

I've been on estrostep for 4 years now and I love it. I tried yasmin right before that and it made me break out really bad!
