My birthday passed in April. I took off b/c the eparty was the day before and I try not to work on my birthday. Anyway, my boss didn’t come in the Monday after that weekend and calls me apologizing that she forgot my birthday and that she didn’t get me a cake, blah, blah, blah. We ALL contribute to a cake and card when it comes to everyone’s birthday in the office. So its not as if she would have had to do it herself and dish out all this money. A few people in the office since then have done the same as me, taken off and have come back to the office to get a cake. I am annoyed at my boss. I know we are now in June but come on. And I am talking about people that have gotten a cake 3 weeks later and sit literally in the section over from me. So its not like she doesn’t know this person’s birthday passed so long ago b/c our birthdays are plastered all over our intranet.
WELL her birthday is on Sunday. So someone brought it up to me if we are going to give her a cake on Monday. I don't know what to do. I really don't want to be the person to handle everything for her day quite honestly. I rather pass the job on to someone else.

Re: Birthday for Boss at Work Question...
Are you usually the one organizing the $ collecting and ordering?
Perhaps you can say that you can contribute, and if they press on you to organize, say something along the lines that you're very busy now?

I would be the better person and just do it.

Re: Birthday for Boss at Work Question...
I have a question on the same thing. My boss's b-day is July 7th. He will be on vacation and when he gets back I am on vacation for 2 weeks. Do you think it looks bad to give him his b-day gift on the 21st when I return?

No I am not the usual planner. But the planner for a birthday always seems to be the boss of the person, or someone in the person’s dept. It is just the 2 of us. I can pass it on to someone else. The person I am thinking of lives in the city and I have no idea where to get a cake anyway! I think I will ask her if it is brought up to me again.. I did let my colleague know that my boss didn’t give me a cake and others in our area got one. She was horrified!

Re: Birthday for Boss at Work Question...
Lisa I think you are okay with giving him the gift after. As long as you do something I think he will be thankful whether its early or late. This may sound horrible but I refuse to be the better person. I don't bend over backwards for people that don't do it for me. So I will pass this on to somebody else. I will contribute $$ but that is about it.
