Birthing class
Re: Birthing class
My husband and I went to a 2 day weekend class (14 hours!) at our hospital. They covered breathing, medical interventions, drug options, changing diapers, how to hold the baby, signs of labor, etc plus it included a tour of the labor/delivery rooms and the maternity ward. It was very worthwhile, with the tour being the most valuable part -- the instruct spent a long time in each of the rooms with us explaining what all the equipment was, who will be in and out of the room, where the different people stand, etc. It made me feel so much more comfortable. A good deal of the instruction on how labor works/option I knew from reading, but it was great to ask those lingering questions and to know that my husband heard the basics.
Re: Birthing class
I took a birthing class..although I never finished it because I went into labor first (i missed the video and baby care portion of my class)...but I do recommend taking it. Some of it is boring and some is dumb but I think it is informative and esp for DH. I know my Dh often said what is that?, did you know that already? how did you know what that was? I think it answered lots of questions for him esp. And believe it or not some of the breathng exercises were used in labor...I hated doing them in class but did use them in labor somewhat. Breathing right really helps things along and makes pushing easier.....

I agree with Calla and Niecey. You learn so much from these classes that in my opinion its very important to go... I was also debating whether or not it was worth it, just becuase I felt so overwhelmed between work and the pregnancy, and I also had to drag DH along.. but seeing the videos and learning step by step what to expect was so worth it. You really get a lot of information that you could never get from reading a book.
