Re: Black Tie

We're having Black Tie, it's a Saturday night wedding so it'll be fancy. I won't send anyone home if they're not in a tux! Many people invited to our wedding have tuxes b/c they've all gone to lots of recent other black tie weddings. If they don't have one, and don't want to rent one, then they'll come in a dark suit, which is totally fine.

Re: Black Tie

cw0904-
that is exactly how I feel, I couldn't believe how some people were dressed at the last wedding I went to. I figure a Black Tie Optional clause on the invite will let people know to get dressed up. I really feel like saying, 'just pretend you are going to the oscars.'

Re: Black Tie

EvenEdan and CW0904, I totally understand what you are sayingand they way some people can dress to these affairs. At least if you say 'Black Tie optional' will let people know that its a formal affair and you are not forcing them to wear a tux but just so everyone can dress formal.

Re: Black Tie

I sort of agree- anyone who wants to be around me and witness the wedding will not let not having a tux stop them from coming to the wedding. I don't care if they come in a jogging suit as long as they can make it. but I'll request it. - just to make them feel comfortable knowing what the rest of dress is going to be. but, good point Michele. Have to talk with FH about it.

Re: Black Tie

I wrote 'Black Tie Preferred' on my invites, and I was very surprised at how many men showed up in tuxedos. I think you should do what you want, and it really looks great in the pictures

Re: Black Tie

Not having one. I dont think our male friends own tuxedo's. We're bikers and the only time I have ever seen any of our friends in a tuxedo is when one of them was getting married and he had 2 of the guys in his wedding party.

No Black Tie for us.

Edited to add: We just want everyone to come, have a good time, eat, drink and dance

Re: Black Tie

I was going to put it on the invites (as optional) but my co worker said don't do it because then people will feel obligated to have one on. Since I could care less if the men are in tuxes or not (except for FH, Dads, Grandpa, etc) I'm not putting it on the invite. I don't want to make anyone feel obligated to buy/rent one for the wedding.

Re: Black Tie

JMO but I could not have cared less what people wore to my wedding. All that mattered to me was that people came and had a good time.
As far as black tie goes, I completely agree with Michelle -

Re: Black Tie

I agree 100% with Meg. Who cares what people wear to your wedding????? I'll be happy that they are there. I would rather have them there and tux-less, than not come b/c of the added expense.

Re: Black Tie

Agreed....I barely noticed what people wore to my wedding. The people will dress appropriately anyway are the ones who will be inconvienced by the tux rental - the others will do what they feel like anyway. And lets face it ladies - our weddings are NOT the oscars!

Re: Black Tie

We didn't have one(our wedding was a Sunday Day) I did try to set a formal tone with invitesto avoid the sundress thing. On my Dad's side EVERYTHING is a black tie affair, on my Mom's side we have relatives from upstate & areas were it would be a stretch for them to travel stay in a hotel & rent a tux. I was pleasantly surprised(when I saw pictures, because I really didn't notice what anyone wore!)at how great everyone looked & most of all they had fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Black Tie

i don't think it matters so much what everyone wears - as long as they are there and happy for you....i would say the vast majority of your guests will exercise sound judgement and wear something appropriate - maybe not to your liking, but appropriate nonetheless...
