hey ladies.. i want our wedding to be formal.. a family member of mine told me that friday evening weddings are less formal than saturdays and that people may not know to dress formal? so i am thinking of putting black tie preferred on the invitations.. can someone tell me what that means compared to black tie optional? i'm confused. thanks!

Re: black tie
Optional is just that, optional. Guests will know that since some people will be there in black tie, that they should def. step up their dress, but they don't have to.
Preferred is still optional, but strongly suggested. You're telling your guests that while you can't make them, you'd like them to be in Black Tie.
