Black tie ... also on BHB

Hey girls!
I need your help asap! I just got an invite for a wedding in the city. The attire says Black Tie ... what does that mean for me and the FH???

Black Tie for him ... does that mean tux and bow tie??? What about a nice black suit with a regular tie??? is that ok???

Black tie for me ... Nice cocktail dress??? Does it really have to be floor length??

PS its next month and all I am saying is that its a REALLY NICE and EXPENSIVE place..

your dress doesnt have to be floor length just fancy. black tie really does mean tux but not necessarily bow tie

Women ... basically anything I would wear to any other wedding??? So cocktail length is fine?!?!?

just went to one not that long ago

men had tuxes
older women all had gowns
younger women had mix of both

tuxes have satin on them (thats the difference) and they're black 99% of the time
