I am going to attend a black tie wedding this September on a Saturday night. Do I have to wear a floor length gown?
Or is below the knee fine? Any help is great

Re: BLack tie and dresses
I have a friend who went to a black tie on new year's eve... she wore a beautiful dress that hit right below the knee and it was totally appropriate for the occassion.

I hate floor length. Where should I go to buy a cheapish one?

i feel that as long as the dress has some bead work on it to make it look amazing, you can wear it if it is just below the knee.
i know some people who swear by Annie Sez for dresses that dont cost what department stores charge but look just as nice!
Hope that helps!

Re: BLack tie and dresses
ha, a friend of my- my best friend actually is getting married in sept on a saturday night, and her brothers girflriend is wearing a merlot three quarter length dress. I am confident you can get away with 3 quarter lenght. This is a very formal black tie affair.

T - length is definitely acceptable. I wouldn't go out and buy something you wouldn't wear again. I am sure there will be others not wearing floor length.

i agree, it stinks but to be on the safe side: i would wear a floor length dress... from what i understand, people put that on invites because that is what they are trying to get guests to wear. so if it were me, and those were the wishes of the bride and groom, that's what i would do, JMO
for a less expensive one? try white house/black market (they run great sales), estelles, macy's (sale rack), lord and taylor (sale rack). HTH!!
