Black Tie Optional?

Is anyone having a black tie or black tie optional wedding?

My mother thinks mine should be black tie optional. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I just worry about it being off-putting to some guests. Any thoughts?

On a completely unrelated note, I can't remember who it was, but whoever suggested OLV for a church, I cannot thank you enough! I booked there this week after hitting all kinds of road blocks at other churches! :)

Black Tie Optional? - Long Island Weddings

We are doing black tie optional as well, per request from my dad. I think even if people do not do a tuxedo, they will know that it is a formal affair from the invite, which I like.

I don't think I will put any wardrobe guidelines, I hope people have enough common sense to dress up!

yayy we are booked at OLV!!! Love it there :)

We aren't doing black tie optional- we decided not to specify anything in the invitation because we know everyone will dress appropriately for the wedding

Black Tie Optional? - Long Island Weddings

FH and I are hoping people have common sense to get dressed up.

FH & I are invited to a black tie wedding and on the bottom right hand corner it says Black Tie. I feel like sometimes Black Tie adds a pressure for people where as Black Tie Optional gives them the choice and more often then not they dress a tad fancier because they assume others will be more dressed up.

Yeah it could have been me- I received all of my sacraments at St. Anne's but chose OLV instead because my FH's parents and my parents got married there. Pre Cana was painless too, you go to a couple's house and talk for an hour with other couples then leave lol

How cute-love that you have a little history there! Sadly we're not going to be able to do our Pre Cana at OLV because we live in California now...hopefully the churches here are pretty easy going on that also!

Agreed. We went to a wedding in July at a popular LI hall, and people were wearing flip flops (people who are also invited to our wedding). I never thought people had to be clued in to how to dress at a wedding, but apparently I was wrong.

Now, while I don't anticipate flip flops in December, I'd like to avoid any other potential shenanigans.

I'm considering this as well.

I'm concerned about certain members of the family.

You would THINK that people have enough common sense to dress up...but they don't.

My sisters boyfriend showed up in JEANS. She got all mad at me because his name was spelled wrong on the escort card. I wanted to be like 'That's what he gets for wearing jeans to my wedding.'
