Black Tie optional (fixed pic)

Black Tie optional (fixed pic)

Ok Here is my question -

We are invited to black tie optional wedding in July - we are definately 'fringe' guests, friendly but not close with the bride or groom.

My FH owns a tux, so he can wear that to get some more use out of it. Do you think he could wear a regular shirt? Or does he have to get the tux shirt with the pleats? He will be wearing a regular black silk tie and no vest.

Now for me, I bought a dress from Ann Taylor that is short - do you think it will be appropriate?

I don't want to buy a long dress that I will never use again, and I know that we won't be in any photos or anything......

well i think your fh's outfit sounds fine

The dress is cute and i would say it goes great for a wedding, only thing is if people do wear mostly long gowns then not sure if you will feel under dressed, also there might be others with shorter dresses but more dressy ones. So i guess it depends on how comfortable you would feel in that situation

I had a black tie wedding - not optional. Id guess about 95% of our male guests wore tuxes and many of those men wore regular white shirts with long ties and cufflinks. I think the pleated shirts may look better if the man is wearing a bow tie with studs and cufflinks.

As for the women. Id say it was a 3 way split. some wore gowns or floor length dresses. Some wore tea length dresses and some wore cocktail dresses. Nobody got kicked out and everyone looked appropriate. Unless you count the guest who wore a big white flouncy dress with a red flower on it. she was appropriate, but Id never wear a big white dress to a wedding unless I was the bride

ETA:
I think the dress is fine. I would dress it up with jewelry and a fancy hair style.

I am having 'formal attire' and I would expect that people would wear full length gowns. I think tea length and cocktail dresses are more appropriate for a day wedding or less formal, or a wedding that doesn't specify. JMO

I know her bridesmaids are wearing tea length gowns.

I was thinking with dressy jelwery and heels I could get away with it.

I will look for something else, but time is running out!

AAAAHHHH too many weddings to go to this year!

Dress it up with gems. You'll be fine.

I wouldn't stress so much! It's a very pretty dress and definitely appropriate for a wedding! Yes, you will see women dressed up in gowns, but I'm sure you won't be the only other girl in a less formal dress. With nice jewelry and shoes and your hair and makeup done nicely, you'll look beautiful and the black and white is very classy!

Have fun at the wedding!

I think the dress is fine. Just went to a Sat. nite Black-tie-optional wedding at a very chic estate in Tarrytown, about 90% of us wore tea length or shorter! There were actually very few floor-length.

Dress it up with jewelry and heels, it will be classy.
