I am looking to block rooms for my Crest Hollow wedding. I called the Marriott and they told me I have to guarantee half the rooms I block. Is this normal? How do you know how many rooms to block? I don't want to block too many and then end up owing the hotel money, but I also don't want to put an enclosure in my inviations about blocked rooms, and then not have enough. Any suggestions, or possibly other hotels?

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I'm a Crest Hollow bride also, and I am in the process of doing the exact same thing right now. I really wasn't feeling the Marriott when I spoke with them. I've been happy with the Best Western Inn Woodbury, and Huntington Hilton though, maybe you should try those also? They just want you to block 10 rooms, and there is no charge to you if they don't get booked up. They hold them up until one month before the wedding, so you'd have to note this in your invitation.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
well I am blocking rooms at Garden City and I dont have to guarantee Anything. But I decided to block 10 rooms at time, and then when they are blocked and they think I need more then will call me or I will call and check, so I only started with 10 for now and then when they are booked i will add 10 more and so on and so on.
good luck Kimberly

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
Thanks. Sounds good. How far is the Huntington Hilton from the Crest Hollow? I was thinking about getting a shuttle van/bus to take guests to and from, so no one staying at the hotel will drink and drive.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I blocked rooms at the Best Western inn in Woodbury. I only had to block 10 to get the discount and they said there was a penalty if you do not use all the rooms but they usually do not charge it as long as you fill most of the blocked rooms. There is a restaurant and bar attached to the hotel too. The rates are reasonable too.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
The Hilton really isn't far, I think it's less than a mile. I should tell you that it's more expensive than the Best Western though. I think they are 149 for the group rate, and Best Western is 109.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
We also arranged for buses to & from the hotel to the reception. We arranged it through the limo company - Camelot - they've been great!!! so far ... not really that costly but definitely worth it so guests don't have to worry. A little convenience for those traveling & want to relax! They've got 2 minibuses that hold 14 & 28 people. We're going to do 2 runs there & back. We've been to weddings where they've had it & it's great!
good luck! Christine

My brother got married at CHCC and blocked at the Best Western in Woodbury too.

I called the Melville Marriott.
Christmasbride, if you don't mind my asking, how much are they charging you for the vans?

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
It turned out to be very reasonable. The 14 pass. was 65 & the 8 pass was 90 plus grat. We're getting the big one all day b/c we have family coming in that need trans. to the church & back to the hotel. Then later, all the other hotel guests will be picked up to go to the reception. The bus will make 2 runs later. They'll be coming back later to get us all afterwards. It makes sense to do it this way. All told, it cost about $1000 for a whole day. Definitely worth it. Let me know if you need the #, they were terrific!
