we could reserve as many rooms as we wanted as long as we filled at least 10 of them to get the discounted rate. and then we got our room 50% off for the entire weekend.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms...PLEASE HELP
I never heard of paying for rooms not blocked. That's insane IMO!
All of my guests were from OOT, as we're not originally from LI. We booked with two hotels in Suffolk County. If you want more info, please FM me.
We also got upgrades and negotiated deals by playing hardball. I have so much advice!

Re: Blocking hotel rooms...PLEASE HELP
I need to block a minimum of 10 rooms. I did not have to gaurantee or pay anything. The rooms are held until 4 weeks before the wedding. Anything not booked by the deadline is released so that anyone else can use the room.
They gave us a discounted rate on the Bridal Suite for our stay.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms...PLEASE HELP
UPDATE: inspired by your wonderful posts, one of my BMs called the hotel and got down to some serious negotiation.
they dropped the rate by $80 and the suite rate by $140 and are giving us a free upgrade to a suite our wedding night. we still need to guarantee 10 rooms for one night but if we are close (say 7 rooms) they won't charge us the 50%.
