Re: Blocking Hotels
i emailed a few places first and then went to see the ones whose rates i liked (i ended up only looking at one). i would suggest an appointment.
they showed us the suite, the regular rooms, the bar, the pool, the places to eat. my hotel doesnt charge us anything. they block 10 rooms right now and if those get booked they will release another 10 rooms that can be blocked and will keep doing that as needed. whatever we dont book just gets released 4 weeks prior to the wedding and we arent responsible for anything.

Re: Blocking Hotels
if you want some type of after party...ask about what time the bar stays open or if you can pay to keep it open. sometimes they negotiate the price of the suite if you want to stay there. for us, if we book 10 rooms than our suite is the same price as those rooms (big savings)
also ask about a shuttle if you would like to utilize that. not all hotels offer it, mine doesnt but they recommended some places for us
