Blocking hotels near Watermill?

At first i didnt think I would need to do this because I didnt expect people who lived far away to actually come but now as the responses are coming in yes I am thinking this might be a good idea.

I am getting married at the watermill, I remember some of the hotels had a free shuttle which I thought was great, anyone know how this blocking of room thing works? If so where near the watermill?

The hotel that does the free shuttle is the Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook. It is actually free before 8pm or else they charge you a one time fee of $50 after 8pm and they make as many trips as possible. I plan on blocking rooms there. However, they cannot make the reservations until you are one year or less away so I have to wait a little. They don't make you sign a contract or anything. What they do is start off with 10 rooms. If you can't fill all 10 then you are under no obligation to pay for them. However, one month before the wedding they will release the rooms to the general public if they have not been reserved. I am getting married next August and they quoted me a price of $145 and there is no minimum as to how many nights your guests must stay. Also, the do have a complimentary continental breakfast for your guests in the morning. The Watermill gave us many suggestions and after calling around this is the only one that has the shuttle service and is the most leniant in terms of signing contracts and having a minimum stay restriction. Other hotels were about $10-$15/night cheaper but when you factor in the shuttle bus and the breakfast, this actually works out better. Hope that helps.

I used the Stony Brook Holiday Inn Express explained above for blocking rooms and they were great about everything! Picking up, handing out hotel bags, etc.

I went with the LI Marriott on the N. Service Road. It is a full service hotel and they quoted me $109 for the night. We went to the Holiday Inn Express but felt that it really didn't suit our needs even though they offered the free shuttle. In addition, the Holiday Inn Express wanted to cancel our scheduled appointment for another bride that called and wanted to stop by, they kept getting my name wrong and even after correction filled out all of the wrong info. on the contract. We found Monica at the LI Marriott to be much more professional and helpful all the info. on the contract was correct and she even included menus and vendor business cards as we had discussed during the tour.
