Re: blocking rooms
We didnt have to. We have no responsibility if the rooms aren't booked, if they are open one month before the wedding, they just go off of reserve and back into their room reservation system.

Re: blocking rooms
same here, but if they are booked, and the person does not show or cancel we are responsible to pay for it we also had to sign a contract.

Re: blocking rooms
it depends on the hotel that your blocking with. For example, the Inn at Fox Hollow has a 70% garuntee - they hold the bride and groom responsible for the difference between what booked and the 70% gaurantee BUT the executive inn which is across the street doesn't hold the bride and groom responsible for anything. they also have a 70% gaurantee but if that isn't met then the discounted rooms just go back up to regular price.
Definitely call and ask each hotel your looking into!

Re: blocking rooms
All the hotels I spoke to didn't require any $$ down ... there was no financial obligation on our part.
Huntington Hilton (Melville) Melville Marriott Marriott Residence Inn (Plainview) Four Points Sheraton
All you do is sign an 'agreement' that says how many rooms they are blocking for you and what the rate is. Usually 1 month before the wedding date, they will release the rooms into circulation and anyone calling at that point pays the regular rate.

Re: blocking rooms
most hotels have you block about 10 rooms at time, giving you another 10 when they book up. you shouldn't have to pay anything for unbooked rooms....usually 30 days before your wedding is when they release the rooms to full price.
most hotels i looked at didn't want to do a hotel block contract until at least 1 yr. before the wedding.
i'd steer clear of any hotel that asks you to put down any $$ or says you're responsible for any unbooked rooms.
