Blue Cake

Blue Cake

I really want to have a blue cake with white seashells on it. I mentioned it to someone who works at my RH and she strongly advised against it. She said that the blue could turn tongues blue and that it won't look as good in real life as I think it will.

Also, she said it looks more like a birthday cake and less elegant. She did suggest having a white cake and then blue pearls at the base of each layer.

I spoke with some cake makers and they said the amount of blue used to dye a cake should not turn tongues blue.

My friends think it's a great idea, but some older relatives raised their eyebrows at the thought.

What do you all think. Some examples of ones I like are below.

thanks!

as much as i love blue, i might be a little worried about staining but if the cake place says its ok then go for it.

i would trust the cake places- if no staining go for it and love the first one

I really like the first cake a lot, I think it is very elegant. I think you should do whatever you want, regardless what other people say because it is your wedding. And if a cake maker confirmed that there will be no problem, then go for it!

Here is a picture of the cake my cousin had. No stains that I know of, and it was delicious! I think if you want a blue cake...then go for it!

If the icing is blue, then yes it will turn tongues blue. If it is fondant then no. I think that you should get whatever cake you want, elegant shmelegant, it's your wedding. If the cake maker is worth his salt, he can make a blue cake look very elegant

Re: Blue Cake

I like the lighter blue for a wedding. Mabe do some blue and cream colors for the shells. It'll make it not tooo blue. But I think its def a cool idea!!

I love the blue cakes- I think they're different from what you see at most weddings.

And you should definatly trust the cake places- I would hope they would know what they're doing.

I think the seashells are such a great touch too!

Re: Blue Cake

we had a blue cake, we had icing not fondant, no one had a stained tongue. no one thought it looked like a birthday cake.
we got a lot of compliments on it actually.

if you want a blue cake, get a blue cake!

Re: Blue Cake

I love the blue cake idea, and my fave was the second one, so pretty. I say trust the cake maker, or maybe call a few and get some opinions of other cake makers or bakeries. HTH

Re: Blue Cake

I like the 1st cake and I think it still looks elegant. I think it would be better to go with a lighter blue like that cake than a darker blue

i love the 1st one .. dont think it will turn tounges blue ....its diff and after all is said and done its ur money spent and ur wedding

Re: Blue Cake

I love the first cake but I'd be a bit concerned about the icing turning tounges blue. Maybe if they can make a small sample cake to see what would happen that would help make your decision easier?

I think it would look just as good with a white icing and blue accents.

Re: Blue Cake

i wouldnt listen to that. i think its so silly to advise against it for that reason. these days, wedding cakes are ordered in every color under the rainbow. if the dye was that big of an issue, no one would order anything but stark white borrrring cakes. my cake was blue with brown and no one's mouth turned blue. go with what YOU want! i like the first one you posted the best!

here was ours. no problems.

but ...if youre that worried, you could do it all in white/cream like this

another beachy blue cake i like

Re: Blue Cake

my cake was blue and if anyone's tongue turned blue, I didn't notice. No one complained. Don't overthink it. If you want a blue cake, get a blue cake.

Re: Blue Cake

I love these blue seashell cakes!!! I am doing a very similar 'Sea of Love' cake which will be a pale champagne pink with shells and sealife, coral, etc on it -sorry I don't have a pic...so I definitely think you should go for it- it's your wedding and you should have the cake of your dreams!!!!!
P.S. I hope this doesn't come out the wrong way but it sounds like the caterer is trying to talk you out of it (?) JMO.. I'm wondering why? Did you show him/her your photos?
