BM color...HELP!

Ok, so originally I was thinking everybody would get their own dress & wear black. I have bridesmaids who are all different ages and different shapes & sizes. But, I'm having a wedding on a Sunday early afternoon. The place has a dark purple carpet. Any color suggestions? Is black ok for an afternoon wedding????

Re: BM color...HELP!

I don't see anything bad with black at all if that's what you really want.. but you can also play with alot of bright light colors as well..

Re: BM color...HELP!

Hmmmmmm......... I think black is more for evening. That is JMO. Please don't be insulted. If the carpet is dark purple, why not try Champagne??? I LOVE that color!

But black is definately an elegant color! Dont get me wrong! Don't stress to much over it!

Re: BM color...HELP!

I also think black is an evening color. My BMs dresses were black soIm a big fan of that but I think an afternoon wedding is more casual and the dress should reflect that. Similiarly, I dont think formal floor length dresses are appropriate for an afternoon reception either.

Re: BM color...HELP!

could you do a light pastel being that you are in afternoon and in May too. I don't know if I would go black in May afternoon with purple carpet. I would go light blue or pinkish, platinum. People will have just went through a dreary winter and would love to see the start of the season in your girls. JMO. but black is pretty and very flattering.

Re: BM color...HELP!

Black is beautiful, but more appropriate for evening affairs! I love the champagne, ivory, gold, tan family! Wine is pretty also!
I don't really think you have to worry about matching your BMs to the carpet!

Re: BM color...HELP!

I know EvenEden, I'm crazy to worry about the carpet!!! I just everyone to look nice, that's all, and not have a problem if the dresses don't match each other exactly.

Re: BM color...HELP!

Why not pick a designer and then have the girls pick a color (maybe pastel purple or something) that way it will be the same color, just a pattern to more of the girl's liking...

Re: BM color...HELP!

I second the Champagne- love that color.

I do agree with the fact that black is more for nighttime affairs.

Re: BM color...HELP!

I agree - champagne is a beautiful color. Did you have an idea for your flowers? Can you work off one of those colors??

Re: BM color...HELP!

Not crazy about black for a Sunday afternoon wedding. I would choice another color. I like the champagne idea- as long as it doesn't show white in the photos. Claud2001's BMs wore a beautiful Sand color from Alfred Angelo. It looked great.

Re: BM color...HELP!

My girls are wearing lilac. I think a lighter color for daytime is nicer

Re: BM color...HELP!

I love the addition about the carpet, don't worry about that unless you all plan on getting so drunk you are going to be laying on it...only kidding.

Anyway, black is a bit dark for a May afternoon wedding. Champagne is nice and the lilac and purple hues are nice. Did you have a color scheme for your flowers in mind for the room?
