Re: BM Drama (Sort of) - HELP!!!!!

LMAO Lisa, my best friend from HS had a very similar wedding in Syracuse... whole thing cost her $5K and it was beautiful but very different from mine...I'm having a Russo's wedding,s he had hers in a mountain lodge... so we have a parallel situation.

Lucky for me, she didn't have a crazy bachelorette party... and she got married 2 years ago so it didn't affect my wedding, but I still managed to spend about a thousand dollars travelling, buying a dress, giving a gift, etc... there's no way I could have done any more while I was in law school and I wasn't getting married at that point.

Offer to host her here for a weekend. Take her out, go to a spa, go to the city... do something with her, but explain to her that the financial stress is too much right now for a Labor Day vacation for you , there are just too many variables making it too expensive and you can't let her foot your bill. She's your best friend, she'll understand.

Jamie that's a great idea! Thank you so much! I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I went through something similar. My best friend had me as her maid of honor, she is very wealthy and wanted this elaborate weekend away in cancun and it just wasn't in my budget considering I was spending a hefty chunk on the gown she demanded, plus the hotel, makeup hair etc. etc. plus saving for My wedding. I was very straight with her, I told her I love you, but cannot afford a weekend away. Would be more than happy to have a fab night out in the city....but that's the best I can offer, and if she wanted me therr bad enough, it would be sufficient, and it was and we had a blast!! Had a very nice dinner and harbour Lights in the city and went to different bars and lounges throughout the night. Had a GREAT limo driver to who kept the limo WELL stocked throughout the night!
Think the whole night dinner and all the extra 'activities' cost me max $500. And each girl chipped in as well for the rest.

HTH

So you are spending a ton on your wedding, but don't want to go to vegas for your friend's bachelorette party, even when she offered to pay for your airfare?

Haha, and skipping a weekend FIVE weeks before the bar? That's not going to even matter. No one makes the push until 2 weeks before.

Honestly, don't go. You're going to be one of those people that goes out to vegas and is constantly on everyone else about $20 here and there.

SRSLY, WHO IS THIS GUY???

Sir,have you taken the bar exam? Cause no one I know waited til 2 weeks before to start studying.

Besides the point that it was about cashflow... coming from someone brilliant and engaging graduating with no job in a sh*tty economy... not about taking a weekend off 'before' the bar, since the bar is in July. So I'm inclined to think you're not a lawyer.
You don't know her. Or her total financial situation. I wouldn't want to go to Vegas in her shoes either, I don't want anyone else paying my way.

Try reading before you reply. I don't know who you think you are, but you're getting on my very last nerve.

I took the bar five years ago. A weekend five weeks before doesn't matter. You learn the material as you go along, and then everything comes together in the last couple weeks. It's not that difficult.

I told her not to go to Vegas. She's not going to have any fun there, and she's clearly going to be worried about money the entire time.

I'm pretty sure that is only one of the factors that's affecting her though... Even if it weren't for the Bar Exam the finances are still an issue, regardless of whether or not her airfare is covered.

I would not worry about making her upset or angry, I am sure she will understand :) Just be open and honest with her about it.
