How much is a typical amount to spend on BM alterations? I just got quotes at 2 different seamstresses and they both wanted $150. The dress only cost $170!!! It is a little big on me, but it's only to take in the back and hem it up a couple inches. Is $150 normal??

Call Phyllis at gownfind!!! I believe she did Maybride06 BM dresses and they were altered for under $80.

yeah phyllis is great.. my alterations at burton's capped at 40 bucks but that was b/c we got our gowns there-- they cap all their BMs at 40.
i'm sorry but that does seem a bit much-- try phyllis, if not i have a family friend (nella) who is the best-- sweet little italian lady who does it out of her house. let me know laura

Hmm when we order my BM dresses they are only charging $70. Not sure where you are located but if you can try Fantasia Rocky Point...
I am trying to think when I was a BM but for some reason I am having a memory problem ...

I was hoping to get the alterations done down here, but if I have to I guess I can take it back to the place we bought them...or go to Phyllis. Do you think she could do it on short notice? I'm back in NY next weekend and I would need it by the 21st of July so that I could try it on before the wedding.

I have never paid more than $60 for alterations. I think anything over that is pretty steep and I have been a bm about 8 times.

I was recently in a wedding, and we got our dresses at Priscilla of Boston. To get the waist and chest taken in and the bottom hemmed it was only $40.
I also got a BM dress altered at my local dry cleaner, and they started at $70 and I talked them down to $40. I really don't see why it should cost so much. If I were a BM and they tried to charge over $100 I'd just bring it elsewhere.
