BM dress ordering question...Edited

One of my bridesmaids is pregnant right now but is due in January. I'm hoping to purchase their dresses before the end of the year for my June wedding. How will they measure her? Do the store people already have some secret formula for calculating it??

ETA: I just want to clarify.... she will have had the baby by the time of my wedding. But she is extreamly large at the moment and we need to figure out how much she will shrink by the time of the wedding.

that's a toughie, maybe ask her what her size was before she was prego. take into consideration her before weight then do one or two sizes bigger

if it's too big then they can always take it in....
or wait until she has the baby

Re: BM dress ordering question...

One of my BM's is pregnant, and due in April. She'll be 7 months at the wedding.

The store wasn't really sure what she should do. She measured (last week, at not very far along, after she's gained a few pounds) at a size 12. She tried on the 8 in the store, and it was tight.

She ordered an 18 for the wedding.

The size 18, for this designer and dress, is a 361/2 inch waist.

I told her to go home, and try on a pair of her husbands jeans (which are 36) and see how much room there is in them.

So, that's what we did in that situation. I've heard some stores have a 'belly' you can put on, and be measured in that - but - you never know how much weight you'll gain when you're pregnant. Plus, the store won't put a cap on alterations, so, I say go pretty big. Better to have to take in, than worry about more fabric, which can be VERY COSTLY.

Some stores have Maternity BM dresses. I think I saw some in Davids Bridal

I dont know what to do either, one of my BM's is pregant and is due in January too. My wedding is next October but I want to get the dresses picked out and ordered now just to give everyone time to save up, get fitted etc. She wants to wait until she has the baby and loses some weight but I am afraid of the possibility of the dress getting discontinued. I am so confused

You can have then put her order in but just don't give her measurements. The store can hold an order for you. But i think it's to soon to order the dresses. it's over 1 year. they usally say to order them about 6 months before.

There is no exact or secret way of figuring out what size to order her. Keep in mind that everyone carries differently and loses the weight differently.

My suggestion would be to take what would normally be her size and go a few sizes up. Being she would have had the baby 6 months before the wedding that gives her time to take off some of the weight but gives her room incase it doesn't all come off.

Some stores may make her sign a release form saying that they are not responsible if the dress doesn't fit when the time comes.

i was gonna say the same thing, everyone is different there is no way of telling...Ive seen some lose all the weight after 2-3 months and some who a year later are still carrying the weight.

Yeah thats a good suggestion, do it close to what she used to be, maybe a size or 2 bigger...did she gain alot of weight during the pregnancy?

Your welcome!

Another thing to keep in mind is if she notices the weight isn't coming off, order extra material worse comes to worse they can probably add panel in.

I have a similar problem myself- my MoH is pregnant atm and is due Jan 28th- my wedding is March 9th - so I gotta have them order the dresses soon..lol

I plan on having her go with a maternity dress or something in a larger size than she normally would take just in case.
