BM dress question?

BM dress question?

I really love this one dress but its close to $300. My mom says I should stick to the lower price range since some of them don't have the money to spend which really limits me to dresses There is this one I really like for $180 but its not as beautiful as the $300 one. I am going next week to look at dresses with some BM's should I stick to a lower range what did you girls do?

As you are looking around with them, get a feel for what they feel is too expensive. I know that being in a BP is very pricey and that a high priced dress can be a major downer for a BM....but I think if you show them that you aren't set on the highest price dress, that they will loosen up a bit....I know that's a good way to 'butter ME up' lol

Definitely stick to a lower price range! They did it for me and I was so appreciative! It woulnt be right to expect them to pay more.

But, in your case, I would show them the dress you like and say 'I know its a bit much $$..can you girls help me find something similar for less $'? They can do the research for you.

Some may not mind, but theres a good chance they wont give you as much in the gift...talk to them! ask what they are willing to spend and take it from there..

I asked my BM's what they were looking to spend. When it comes down to it I just want them to enjoy being in the wedding and not have thought in mind that it's a burden. Talk to them and see what the are willing to spend. Also, as a part of their gift, I am paying to have the dress altered into something they would wear often, whether they want it made into a dressy top or a more casual dress. Something to consider....Good luck!

Re: BM dress question?

I was in a wedding a couple of years ago where the bride had our dresses made and it cost us $300. However, she offered to cover $50, so it ended up actually costing me $250, which is better...BUT...in all honesty I would have prefered a lower priced dress. The dress was nice, but I have never worn it again. Now, ordinarily i would not expect to wear a bridesmaid dress again, cuz they are just not always made to be worn again, BUT i WOULD expect to wear a $300 dress again, and that was just not case. cest la vie! so...it's just something to keep in mind...

I would suggest trying to find a lower price range for a similar style dress, and definitely take the other opinions from the girls who posted - i thought they had some really good ideas on the situation (asking girls to help you find dress that similar and paying for alterations - or at least covering part of the cost of the dress as a gift).

good luck!

I would drop out of a wedding party if someone made me pay anything more then $200 for a dress I would only wear once. I honestly say it is unfair unless you plan to cover the extra costs. Realize it is a dress they only get to wear once there are only a few times you can convert a bm dress to a nice cocktail dress.

I'd stick to a lower range unless you are open and willing to help split the differencefor some of the girls that may not have the 300 to part with.... I agree with you it is tough to find, but it's also alot to ask of someone for something they will wear once JMO... Hope everything works out

Re: BM dress question?

dont forget thats $300 WITHOUT alterations, and alterations can be up to $60-80 for BM's, so it will be more like $400 for the dress after its all done.

Definitely look around, try RK bridal they have a no frills program and you will get a discount and if you find the dress elsewhere for less then they'll give it to you for less...but keep looking around. Unless your girls say tthey are 100% ok with spending 400 on a dress i would not pick that out for them

I did the no frills price with my moh dress at RK.... I'm confused what that actually is embarassed to admitt that... i know the dress was like 60 more than i would have spent doing NO no frills.... does this mean she will get alterations? I bought my dress that day too and was so excited about me i didnt pay much attention to the other thing going on....lol im a horrible bride...

i think with the no frills you dont get alterations there, not 100% sure though.
