BM dress question????!!!

BM dress question????!!!

Hey there!
So, I am getting married at the Harbor Club in August of 11. Its an evening ceremony and reception.
I want my girls in navy...and I want knee-ish length. (NOT LONG)

My FMIL made me feel like knee length means that we are NOT having a nice wedding. I mean its def not black tie....BUT it still gonna be nice.

I just wanna know if you think shorter dresses take away from a wedding being nice??? I totally dont think so. But that might just be me!

I am sure this sounds silly... SORRY!

TIA

Gaby!!! Where have you been?! Haha :)

I think it all depends on how they accessorize their dresses... If they were a pretty silver heel and have their hair up in curls then no, you definitely did not make it less formal...

I think the common misconception is that shorter means less formal but that is definitely not the case.

Have you picked any out yet? If the dresses have a delicate detail to them, like an extra big bow in the back or off the shoulder cut top I think you will be just fine :)

I'm going to live vicariously through you my HH Bride!!!

lol

I can totally picture knee length dresses in navy, maybe with pearls?! I think knee length can be dressed up so it is as formal as a gown!

Aren't shorter dresses called COCKTAIL dresses?? (ETA, meaning, they have a name and therefore an appropriate place at social functions)

Why are they appropriate for anything else but a wedding?? I don't see the problem here. Dress em up with jewelry, nice hair and kick a*s*S shoes and you're all set.Don't let anyone bully you out of your vision for your day!

We did knee length - I really just don't like long dresses (except for my wedding dress, I hate to wear long), and my wedding was beautiful and classy.

Re: BM dress question????!!!

My mom said the same thing. I really wanted knee length dresses for my girls (I was considering tea length but my girls are short already and the dress seemed to shorten them even more when it fell mid-calf). My mom said that since my wedding will be elegant and at a fancy place, I should not have knee length dresses but rather floor length.

Honestly, do what you feel. I was just so tired of arguing over EVERYTHING with my mom, I let her win that one. I think knee length is so pretty (and elegant too!) and my BMs came up with the idea of putting a flower in their hair to dress up the dresses. And of course the woman working in the salon agreed with my mom and said to go for floor length...

Re: BM dress question????!!!

Its J crew.... The sash can go on the side...or back....and it can just be wrapped and NOT tied in a bow..

It looked sooo good on 2 of the girls who I asked to try it!

PLUS...I totally think it is a re-wear!

He is the link.... I like NAVY

Re: BM dress question????!!!

Cocktail length is perfectly acceptable, even for black tie. Just be careful to choose a dressy style and material.

Re: BM dress question????!!!

Floor length in August is cruel! Knee length will look beautiful and your girls will thank you! Don't worry about it!
