BM dress shopping

BM dress shopping

The last two weddings I was in (years ago) we all went dress shopping all together and picked a dress that we all likes. I was planning on doing this when the time came to also. However- I am in a wedding in may and the bride picked out the dress we all have to wear- I am hearing more and more of this and thought this was a bit odd.

Has anyone else hear of or doing this? Is it still OK for me to let the girls pick what they like or is it better for me to pick?

You can do whatever you want... ITS YOUR DAY. The only thing is the way you handle it. I picked out my BMs dresses but I asked for their opinions and of course if one objected I would figure out a solution. I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable. I'm not sure what your BMs look like but for me my sister may feel uncomfortable in front of my future sister in law bc she's on the heavier side and my future sister in law is like a size 2. I didn't want to her to feel awkward so I just took everyone's perceptive in and then chose a dress that would look good on everyone.

Totally up to you what you want to do. What I did was I brought my two sisters (MOH's) and FSIL with me to look at BM dresses. I let them try on whatever they wanted. We then narrowed it down to two.

Then I emailed pictures to the other 4 BM's and asked them to take a vote. Then I took 3 of the BM's (1 lives in cali) to try on the dress that won the vote. Turns out, it looked great on all of them. That's how we chose the dress!

do what works best for you. its nice to involve everyone, but it can make the decision harder. IF you pick the dress, they have to go with it, whether they like it or not, LOL. HTH good luck!

Re: BM dress shopping

I found a dress online that I liked; two of my BM's are out of state.

So....the one who lives in Wisconsin went on her own and tried it on and loved it.

My SIL who lives in CT...her and I went one day to try it on up there and she loved it.

Then I went with my MOH and other BM here on Long Island to try it on and they loved it too.

So I kind of got lucky with the first dress I liked and had them try on.

I'd look around for some ideas on your own, then bring your girls with you to have them try it on. To see how they feel and if they like it also.

Good luck!

The last wedding I was in the bride picked it out and told us what to order. I may end up doing that because my girls are PIA's and no one can agree on anything.

in a perfect wedding all the girls would like the same thing BUT everyone has different oppinions on things and if I had to please everyone I would never have a dress picked out. I would email the girls to show them ideas of what i was looking for but when it came down to it I picked the dress, i think its easier and less stressful that way. All the girls like it so i'm very happy about it

But if you want to bring all the girls together to look for a dress, go for it! I'm sure it will be fun

Re: BM dress shopping

I've been in 3 bridal parties in the past year and I'm in 2 more next year (as well as my own). 2 of the bridal parties the bride took us all to look at dresses and we picked them out. The other 3 parties told us what dress to wear. (I took my girls to look and pick out dresses but they are all wearing different dresses)

You can go either way. Sometimes it's easier with bigger bridal parties to tell them what dress to wear because too many hands and no one agrees on what you want. And half the time the girl says she likes it just to make the bride happy.

Good luck and happy shopping!

My dress shopping was a tad difficult. Two girls are 'local' (although one of the two is in NJ, while the other 3 are in Florida, California and England. Sooooo...I brought the 2 local girls to try on dresses, and then the 3 of us came to a decision on a dress that we all loved, and then got the opinion from the other 3 girls (by email and pictures). Once all the girls gave the ok, then I decided that the original one would be the BM dress! Luckily all of the girls loved the original dress (or at least said they did lol)

I just plan on taking my MOH and 1 or 2 of the BMs. I think it would be too difficult for me to get everyone together on the same day at the same time. Hoping it works out, although I want to go soon but my MOH is giving me a hard time about that because she wants to lose weight. Uhhh, it's always something!

The 2 weddings I was in the bride picked the dress. I had no say in it. lucky for me they didn't look horrible on me.

I wish someone would let me choose!

I think when I pick the dresses I'll prob take 2 of the girls with me and let them try things on then take a vote with what they liked and I liked with the other girls.
