For all those who have gone BM dress shopping in the city, what are the best places to go to? I'm looking for large selection...and preferably a place that will do the alterations (although it's ok if they don't).

Go to RK Bridal. They have a huge selection. You can buy dresses and have them altered there, or you can buy them a little cheaper and have them altered on your own.

RK Bridal has the largest selection of BM dresses I have seen! It gets a little crazy there on the weekends, but they have every designer possible and excellent prices! you can chose whether you want the alterations there by using either there no frills or full service program!make sure you bring pics of dresses you like too! they are located btwn 8th &9th on 39th.

We only shopped for dresses in NYC (one day only). I researched the styles and then selected places to visit. Of the above, we went to Thread, Jenny Yoo and Here Comes the Bridesmaid.

Here Comes the Bridesmaid- It has a large selection. Not much assistance. They didn't seem to know whether we were there or not.

Oh- regarding alterations. Jenny Yoo doesn't do them, but they recommended an NYC seemstress to us. She was very, very good. (She also does alterations for the Vera Wang dresses.)

i went to here comes the bridesmaid this past friday (in the middle of the day) to scout out different dresses and colors. i pretty much had the place to myself, which was great.
pros: large selection, no salesperson breathing down your throat
cons: relatively little assistance, and i can see how it might get very crowded on weekends
it's worth a look, i think, especially if you just want to see tons of dresses in a concentrated period of time. BUT they don't help you out much and they don't do alterations.

I was so happy with the experience there.. and since my BMs are a pain in the arse to schedule-- I'll be there at least 3 more times in the next month.
HCTB- way too much going on there-- it is mayhem. They do have a large selection but I do not recommend if you want to put your girls in different styles.. If you want one dress- this is great- but it was too confusing for us- and there was no sales help.
I only went to two places cause I pretty much had my mind made up before we went looking.

Here's our story there. It was the last place we went on our marathon shopping day. I was absolutely convinced that I had to get the dresses there for months before hand.
My one BM (of 2) and I go to the powder room and leave my sister (MOH) behind. The salesgirl repremanded her for looking at dresses. Then when I got back and we were looking, she completely ignored us. I had to ask her about getting swatches, and I was telling her the style names practically. She also forgot to take their measurements.
After our experience there, my sister was talking to her friend who used Thread dresses. She said that the sizing was a horror story. (She got her dresses through Bella Bridesmaid in San Francisco- so she never dealt with the NYC Thread showroom.)
Fast forward a couple of months- I got one call on my answering machine from them 2 months ago to see if I was still interested in their dresses, and about a week ago I got a mailing to rate my experience with them.
I guess their reputation is catching up with them.
