SO WHEN I GOT ENGAGED I KNEW I WANTED MY BM TO WEAR BLACK WITH AN ACCENT COLOR, SO I PICKED OUT 3 BLACK DRESSES WITH A ROSE/CHAMPAGENE COLOR SATIN THING ON IT. THE COLOR MATCHES MY DRESS ACCENTS ON IT AND IT LOOKED NICE TOGETHER. THEY ARE ALL VERY UPSET WITH ME THAT THEY ARE WEARING BLACK IN JULY, BUT WE ARE ONLY GOING TO OUTSIDE FOR A LITTLE WHILE, PLUS MY DRESS IS VERY HEAVY.. SHOULD I CHANGE THE COLOR TO MAKE THEM HAPPY? PLEASE HELP ME!

Re: BM DRESSES
Ill be honest with you. I let my BMs pick their dresses but I had final say. I picked a color and they all chose different dresses from one manufacturer. But if I felt the dresses were innapropriate or ill-fitting I would have said so. Having them choose had two benefits. One, they were all happy. Two, they can't bit*h about being in a dress they hate. If they dont like it it is their own fault.

If they were attending a wedding in July, chances are they would wear black right?? Everyone wears black dresses to weddings now a days right??? Why are they complaining? Let me tell you something...July is hot and not matter what color bridesmaid dress you ask them to wear, they will be hot! I wore a pale silver satin dress to a July 3rd, and I was hot. It's summer and it's hot! Tell them to suck it up!

Re: BM DRESSES
You only get married once. If they can't understand that tell them so. It is your day. If you don't get black, everytime you look at pictures of the day you will think about it.

Re: BM DRESSES
I never thought I would choose black and you know what???? I did!!! And maybe some of my BMs secretly dont like it, but its my wedding and you know what?? Its YOUR wedding!!!!!! You pick what you want- end of story!!!! Just tell them- 'Girls, this is what i really want. I respect your opinions but you need to respect that this is what i wanted for a long time now'.

I did the same thing. I told them a color and let them choose their dresses.

Re: BM DRESSES
I would tell them that you understand their concerns, but this is what you have always dreamed of and if they are really your girls- they will respect that as well. My BMs pretty much told me they would wear a burlap bag if that is what I wanted. I think they are being a little selfish - also a black dress is something that they could wear again.
Have you thought of a tea length dress? That might make it less hot.

Re: BM DRESSES
I have to be honest, I dont love black bm gowns in general for bridal party and especially in july, HOWEVER, if thats what YOU want, then thats what YOU GET! I dont think you should allow your BMs to dictate what color your wedding scheme will be! Its your decision, especially with color, which will decide a lot of your wedding choices.. Go with your gut and do what makes you happy!

Re: BM DRESSES
I originally wanted yellow for my BM dresses and then 2 of them told me they hated yellow!!! They finally said whatever I wanted they would go with, but luckily for them I fell in love with a deep red bouquet, and then went back to the color I first thought of after we got engaged, which was red. (The BMs wanted red or black, so they got their wish!)
Your BMs will come around to your way of thinking when they realize they can save money on shoes, because who doesn't own a pair of black dressy shoes??
My only suggestion would be to stay away from satin dresses, as that might be more hot than chiffon or organza. Either that, or consider a tea length dress if your girls are in good shape.

Re: BM DRESSES
The only people you should be making happy on your wedding day are you and your FH. If you change what you want to make someone else happy, then you will wind up unhappy. It took me a long time to get to this point, but I am here.
Last week a florist told me I couldn't have the color flower I wanted for my bo-k. Guess what? I'm not using that florist. And what really gets my goat right now, is I just read a review on the bride's review board and low and behold, there was a picture of the flowers I want, in the color I want, created by the florist who told me I couldn't have it.
Don't change your heart's desire for anyone but yourself or your FH.

Re: BM DRESSES
When they get married they can pick whatever they want. If the dress was not comfortable then I can see trying to make them feel more comfortable possibly in a different design. Lord knows the dress is on for such a long period of time, but the color-no. I think they really shouldn't bust your chops about it. Tell them you have your heart set on this and although you know they aren't wild about it-when it's their turn you will do whatever they ask of you. Buy them really uncomfortable shoes-maybe all the pain from the blisters will help take their mind off the color of the dress.

Re: BM DRESSES
why are they so upset??
if they were a guest at a wedding they would be wearing black in july....and i think black BM dresses rock - you really CAN wear it again....
and at the end of the day - its your wedding - you get to pick the colors...

Re: BM DRESSES
I picked the color of my BM dresses - if that is the color you want you should stick with it. I have been 100% open to change with regards to the style of the BM Dresses - because I want them to be comfortable (and I tried to pick a color that wouldn't clash with their skin tones). I will not change my BM dress color because it is part of my theme (Blues).
I think that they are entitled to have opinions if the dress LOOKS bad or is ill-fitting, but if they just don't like the idea of black in july .... well too bad it is your wedding!
