BM gifts question RE jewelry

I found pretty earrings to give my girls (that match the dress). problem is they are not real gold or sterling silver, they are swarovski crystals though. So i mentioned to my sister last night and she was a little shocked i wasn't going to give gold, or pearls or diamonds...i love her but hellooo, she is not getting married and doensn't know how much i am spending on this wedding already! plus i am giving the girsl otehr gifts too. So i called the jeweler i am buying the earrings from and she said she would convert the posts to white gold for $25 more. Now i feel like its just not worth it to do that (the earrings would cost like $50). I'm pissed b/c it took me forever to find earrings that match the dress. Has anyone else given jewelry or are planning to that is costume or not 'real' gold.

Yes, I'm giving the girls necklaces that aren't real gold.

I've been in weddings before where we received costume jewelry and there was no problem with it. Some of it I even was able to wear after the wedding as well.

I am giving my girls 'costume' jewelry...cost me about $16-$18 a pair from annabellagio.com. I sent the link to my BM's and had them pick their favorite pair, and they each picked a differnt one. None of them cared about whether they were real or not b/c they know it's just a small part of the 'larger' gift and it's more of a sentimental value than anything...

Bonnie - I gave my two MOH's (in addition to their necklaces) earrings I bought at Swarvorski: They were similiar to these.

I'm giving my girls bracelets and my MOH a pair of earrings that aren't 'real'. I wish I could afford more but I know they'll understand that it isn't about the gift, it's about how much I appreciate them. I've got other stuff for them too, I like giving a lot of lil things better than one big thing anyway.

so she can convert them to white gold, but not sterling silver??? as a jewerly designer, i think that is a bit odd... how much to convert them to sterling silver?? I personally think any gift that you give them is nice... im giving my girls a sterling silver necklace and I made them swarovski crystal bracelets with sterling silver clasps, and it was not cheap to make those bracelets!

I am giving my girls swarovski earrings. They are beautiful, and I dont think anyone will care that they are not 'real' anything.

mine are simulated pearls...illusion necklaces and stud earrings by carolee...they are sold at macys and are pretty. i spent $55 on each for jewelry, and i think that's fine...i got them other gifts as well. theres nothing wrong with giving 'fake' jewelry...chances are they wont wear it again anyways. ~Lacey

to have them look coordinated i am ordering cheap pearl necklace and earrings
the necklace is $8 and earrings $4

i dont think its cheap at all
its alot better than me telling them to go out and buy it themselves

I gave my girls Swarovski necklaces that weren't real in addition to numerous other things. I am sorry that your sister is giving you a hard time about the gift... she should be happy that you're putting so much thought into it.

These are the necklaces I gave my girls
