So one of my BM's called me to tell me that she won't be at the shower She said that her job will not let her have off, since they are hosting some event and need her.. Do employers really do this??

Re: BM issue
Yup! My FSIL invited someone to our wedding. Yesterday they called her and, despite her 2 months notice she needed the day off, they told since a lot of people are sick, they need her.

Re: BM issue
Yes.
My friend worked in mergers and acquisition in a big, high power company. She was their slave. If they needed her, any plans she had had to be dropped. Needless to say, she left the company and is much happier now. She said that she lost a lot of friends in that period because she could never keep the plans she made.

Re: BM issue
My friend is a production manager at ABC and even if they give notice and then are needed. They can still not come in but they don't get paid and it looks really bad for them.

Yes, one of the girls in our office can't go to her sisters Rehersal Dinner because we have an event that night. She is the MOH...

Re: BM issue
that's awful.
i had a job like that for two years - and after missing way too many important days in the lives of my friends and family, i quit. i work for a much better place now, and am much happier! that is so sad - but i bet your BM feels bad about it.

Did you ask her if she could split the time between the two somehow?

Re: BM issue
Thats not right, I would feel very hurt too. Couldn't she just have asked like a month in advance to have that day off. Im sure everybody else will be there to celebrate w/ you, don't let that get you down. My brother has a job like that he's going to be an usher in my wedding, he's a reporter and he does the news everyday on tv. Im sure there will be many things he will miss like maybe even the rehersal dinner or bacholer party w/ the guys. His job is very demanding and he barely gets any time off.
