BM's & Tatts!!! ..ARGH

I have nothing against tatts as I have a couple myself. But can someone please tell me WHY my lil sis/ BM just got a HUGE visible tatt?

Now I know there is makeup that can cover it and I know she is entitled to live her life and her life does not revolve around my up coming wedding ...but for PETES SAKE! could she not have waited?

Am I wrong? Geesh, she and 1 other BM already have several tatts that we will have to cover up I just feel like what if the makeup doesnt work well or if it gets on her dress? She said she just got some really expensive makeup to cover it but I just feel like WHY not wait!

I would never kick her out she is my sister but I am a little Hot!

Where did she get the tat that it's so visible?

I have nothing against tats, but one of my bridesmaids has a whole sleeve. I think we may have our makeup artist airbrush her, which she doesn't mind.

If your BM doesn't mind covering it, airbrushing would be the best idea, it won't come off on the dress and it's sweat proof.

It is on her arm.

In retrospect I guess I should calm down.... I just feel like I knew she had tatts when I asked her but I guess when I heard through the grape vine about this new tatt I lost it.

I understand how some brides do wish to for BM to cover up or take out a peircing and what have you. I personally am not doing that to my BM.. I have a nose ring its tiny but still its there.. My tats are all hidden so they won't show. But honestl;y I asked my BM to be in my wedding for a reason, if they have tats or peircings I knew that prior to asking them so why am I going to make them change themselves. Thats just me though. If they are willing to do this for you thats great. Me personally wouldn't ask them to get airbrushed which is more of an expense.

I'm not being bitchy I hope you know this

Is it that big of deal that it needs to be covered? I guess I'm another one that would never ask them to cover them. My sis/MOH has 2 that will be visible and they are a part of her that I would never cover...

But I hear the make up is supposed to be great to cover them....why not to a trial run on the cover-up and see how it goes and take a piece of old clothing to see if it rubs off.

No I totally understand.... I have my own tatts so I am not anti-tatt or anything it's just, if I were asked to be in a wedding I would conform to the brides wishes (within reason! lol) Also when I asked her we discussed covering her tatts. if it was something she wasn't ok with then we would have talked it through.

I dont want to come off as some bridezilla jerk but I havent made any other requests of my BM as far as appearances go. My point is, if we already spoke of covering your existing tatts why add to them Before the wedding?!

i wouldnt mind if my BMs had tats but if it bothers you, you can always pay for them to be airbrushed

personally, i would never ask BMs (if i were having them) to hide tattoos... and if a bride told me to hide mine (if i had any on my arms) i would be very upset... i would think about this before you decide what to do... and imagine how you would feel if let's say you were in your friend's BP and she told you your hair was too short and you had to let it grow or that your hair is the wrong color or something

just some food for thought!

I am biased, but I think you are totally wrong for being mad....my whole back is tattooed, but even if it wasn't I would never get mad at my girls for having a visible tat. It is a part of them take it or leave it. My best friend got married last year and she is so wholesome and so is her whole family and they never even thought twice about my tats.

I just think that expecting her to wait until your wedding is totally crazy. It is one day that yes will be amazing and life changing, but you can't ask the world to stop because you are getting married....I understand you are going for a certain look for the day of, but you should love your girls no matter what they have on their skin, their weight, height, hair color, etc.

I am not trying to come off mean, you are entitled to how you feel and think, but I am just trying to give you a different spin on it. JMHO...and please don't take my post like I am attacking you. Try to feel better and not sweat the small stuff...your day will be amazing no matter what. Don't stress the things you can not control or have no right to control.

Maybe if you request it she'll do it.... Most BM's probally wouldn't have a problem doing it.. My MOH made one of her BM dye her hair!!!!!!!!!!!! Because it was 'too red'.. It was ridculous.. But that was because her DH 's family are extreme comformist and would have blown **** about it forever.

Good luck!

Thanks for your input. I am totally open to opinions and I respect yours! I think this truly boils down to an individuals personal taste and preferences. That said, I can see based on the replies that many people feel differently than I do. You were correct when you said I am going for a certain look on my day. I explained my feelings regarding tattoos to my BM's upon asking them to be in my wedding. They had every right to say no but they didn't.

I truly do not think this is an unreasonable request. If I agreed to take part in someones day I would absolutely do what ever they asked ( again within reason lol) I have not given any mandates as far as appearances go. They voted on their dresses and they are picking their own shoes, hair styles and accessories. I want all my girls to look and feel just as beautiful as I do.

When I look back at the wedding photos that I will pay a boat load of money for, forgive me if I dont want to see a BP full of tatts! AGAIN ...people will take offense and sorry in advance but I am simply not a fan of visible tatts in formal attire. I have a small tatt on my shoulder which I am NOT covering because it is in memory of my brother so I get that tatts have sentimental value and that they are representative of a person's individuality. My point is, I am not asking anyone to do anything that I wouldn't do. If I were asked to be in a wedding and the bride asked me to cover my shoulder tatt i would period. I get that the world doesn't revolve around my wedding and I am not trying to impede on anyone's individuality but by agreeing to be a BM you in essence agree to conform to the brides wishes for 1 measly day!

Is there no one that agrees with me? lol someone help me here lol

i totally understand what you are saying .. but i am the type of person who wouldnt get a tatto and if i did ... i would MAKE SURE it was in a place i could cover up if need be ... but thats just me and the way i am ... i understand how you feel about having tat's in the pictures ... if my sister got a tatto on her arm i dont think i would really care but if my sister got a tatto sleeve ... i would have a problem with hthat becuase of my wedding pictures! sooo to sum up ... i understand where you are coming from. i wouldnt want tat's all over my pictures either but im very conservative and thats just the way i am ... however, you cannot change your sisters tatto sooo i say come up with some kind of agreement. have her apply the makeup and show you what it looks like. see if the makeup really works before you freak out!

fh and i both have fully sleeved arms and i am not covering up my tattoos, but i remember seeing on my fair wedding that the bride that had a full sleeved arm got airbrushing and it looked great. i understand why you want her to cover it.

ITA. as a person with tattoos, i would be pissed off if someone asked me to cover them, especially if that person KNEW i had them. I understand that its a new tattoo, but i dont think she shouldve had to put her life on hold for your wedding. the tattoo is part of who she is, and if you dont want the tattoo in your pictures, then IMO its basically a slap in the face to her.

As much as I am conservative and totally tattoo-less, I would never ask my FSIL to cover hers. She has some on her arms, one on her ear even!!!!! But it's who she is and my conservative family will have to accept it!
