debate... ok not fully informed on this topic but...
spinoff from the WTC widow thread...
a while back i though i heard something about some widdows trying to get a very large compensation amount(since their husbands made alot of money) to keep their current lifestyles.....
now i agree you cant compensate for the loss of a spouse, but i dont think people need to maintain multimillion dollar mansions...
for example, here Deborah Amato's husband, James, raced into the World Trade Centre on September 11. His brother, John, says Mrs Amato's grief was brief.
John Amato claims she quickly took down all the photographs of her husband, then started building a $US1 million house for herself and three daughters and her new lover, also a firefighter.
John Amato also says she has had breast implants, a Caribbean vacation and $US40,000 of dental work.

Hey I agree with you, things were good now they are bad. Its called downsizing.
I feel for those people making an average living and supporting a family and then they really had nothing.

what about all the little people in those buildings?
the ones struggling just to make ends meet? why don't they deserve a nice pay out as much as the big guys?

Mrs Bergin has told reporters that Mary Koenig got $US3 million in compensation, and was now 'living with a man whose locker was right next to her husband's, a man who did the same job as her husband, who now drives the same truck, and sleeps in the same bed as her husband while taking holidays in Florida'.

You know...I've heard that there have been alot of cases of (fire)men who survived the tragedy only to leave their wife for a widow of a fallen brother.

I read the whole thing, and I think that I can't judge the way those women are spending their money (aside from the teeth and boobs which if true, I think it's obnoxious). As long as their kids have the money for college, an investment in a home isn't that bad an idea. They don't have a bread winner in the house anymore. Most of these women didn't work, and the security of having a home is necessary.

i could kinda see firemen leaving wives for widdows...
my uncle use to be fdny, and his (now EX) wife use to be very 'friendly' with a bunch of his fire fighter buddies, and she didnt hide it well
