So I just came in because the police finally left, but there were 5 cop cars, an EMS, and an ambulance all in front of my house (literally 3 feet from our driveway). Some guy who the cops recognized as a neighborhood drunk was knocked out with what we think was a beer bottle. No one saw it. My dad looked out the front door as he usually does in the evenings (checking for punk kids and such) and saw the body laying in the street. He called the police and a few other neighbors did the same. No one knows if the guy was mugged, got into a fight or what. My whole neighborhood was standing on my driveway and the sidewalk in front of our house. The guy is alive, but it was so creepy to see him laying there bleeding. After the cops all pulled away, Dad dragged the hose to the street and hosed off the area.
Ugh! What happened to the neighborhood I grew up in?

Nobody seems to know what happened. And there were 8 punk kids hanging out on the front porch of the house across the street but when the cops asked if they saw anything, they said no and they all went in the house and didn't come out until the cops left. I don't think the kids were involved, but I think they saw something.
Now I feel unsafe in my own neighborhood where I have lived for 27 years (since I was brought home from the hospital as a baby)
I need a hug and I already brought FH home. Maybe I will get one from Mom. She is still up

Anybody ever have a crime committed in front of your home or near your home? How did you get rid of the creepy unsafe feeling?

You're welcome I have never been through what you're going through, But I think it will just take time for that feeling to go away. It's not a feeling that you're going to be able to 'turn off' so easily. Again, I'm sorry you are going through this

i know its creepy to look outside the house and see a swarm of police, a few years ago the my street was closed off and they had the swat team(i think) cause our neighbor was in his house with a gun threatening himself and his daughter.. very scary to look out and see all the police people

I dont live in the greatest of neighborhoods and I have seen many things happen which I wish I hadnt. From people jumping off the building across the street from mine to commit suicide to a murder being committed right in the street. Its the worst feeling in the world. Especially when you have lived in this neighborhood your whole life.
You will have that creepy feeling for a while, during the day will not be as bad but at night it gets worse. It starts to go away after a little bit but I know the feeling. That is why we are trying to get out of here soon!!!!!

I guess I should be fortunate that I wasn't backing out of my driveway when it happened or they might have hit me or fallen on my car.
I still can't believe the kids across the street saw nothing.

thats so scary my senior year of h.s. My friend went to get in his car to come to school and found some 3o year old dead guy leaning up against the pole next to his car. turns out guy OD on drugs and his friends dumped him out of the car. I know that is so scary!!!!!
