Yeah, since its your HM and its International, I would go with the travel agent. They might be able to contact hotels etc to get upgrades, they may be able to upgrade the airline tickets......and if God forbid anything goes wrong they can fix it. You dont want to be worried about that do ya?

Internationally I always use a travel agent - it's just easier. When I went to Greece, I definitely needed a travel agent's help in where to stay, etc.

We went to Greece and booked everything on our own. Everything is online - you can read reviews and look at travel forums where you can ask for advices (for reviews - look at tripadvisor and forums, try Foders or Frommers online travel forums for greece)
You can also talk directly to the hotel on your own. I booked directly through the hotels via email and also bought a $5 calling card and made a couple of phone calls to the hotel's concierge to confirm details (such as having a car rental waiting for us at ports, pick up from airport, etc) Everyone speaks English so communication really is not a problem.
We thought about using a travel agent - and actually initially used one but we found she offered the same rates or even higher (esp on flights - she did not have access to certain flights that we could find online through travelocity or certain airline's websites). Plus, they only have a select number of hotels they deal with- for me that really restricts your choices. Now that it is so easy to find information on the internet, I really can't imagine using a travel agent. I guess it is easy and nice to have someone do everything for you - but if you're anything like me, you're going to end up researching what they recommend anyway!
Feel free to FM if you need any advice on where to stay. I went to Crete and Santorini (and Athens for one night).

I booked everything through travel tom. He was totally wonderful and i continue to use him. he gave us tons of recomodations and told us where we would get our best bang for our buck. try him and he takes all the stress out of it for you - [email protected]

We are in the process of booking our Greece honeymoon. We went to a travel agent and then tried to see how much the same package booking on our own would be, and it was a lot more then she quoted us.

I would say through a travel agent just so you have a backup if anything goes wrong. If you find a price on line most travel agents will match or beat it. I know all Liberty Travels do that.

As a travel agent myself, I may be biased but I would say go with an agent. When things go wrong, agents can call the hotel to sort out any problems. If they have a contact at the hotel they can get you things like preferred rooms or upgrades. Also agents have so much knowledge about your destination, it really helps to have someone recommend restaurants, day tours, etc.

I would say on your own. You will get the same deal if not better than with a TA. I would agree that you should make calls to the hotels and such so that they have things taken care of also if you book thru expedia or another site they do offer assistance if something does happen. I experienced it.

I think for international travel or for honeymoon agent are great they are much help to us... we can get all thing ready even if we have not exerting more effort on booking....
research on your own.. then book through a travel agent. I recommend using tripology to help find a travel agent who works for your specific location! Lots of Luck!
