I'm starting to panic, we still haven't booked a church yet. We signed our contract in August for our Reception in Riverhead. Anyone reserve a church that wasn't their home parish? Any advice on what to say/be prepared with when you call? Any suggestions for a RC church in or nera Riverhead?
Thanks! I have to get on this soon!

Re: Booking a Church
Yes! I had such a problem getting a church, especially if you aren't a member. The church we are using is Mt. Sinai Congregational Church, the people there are so nice, so accommodating, and you do not have to be a member of the church either. Its about 20 mins from Riverhead. If you wanted something a little closer to the RH Baiting Hallow Congregational Church is in Calverton, I didn't visit the church but I know you do not have to be a member there to use their church.

Thanks! Do you know if you need a letter of recommendation from your church or just a baptism certificate?

Re: Booking a Church
I had issues booking a church since neither I nor FH belong to a parish. We are using my mothers (I lied and gave her address - I know it's awful)
The priest didn't say anything about FH not having a parish (he did ask). He just said that the church requires a baptismal certificate from the church you were baptised in (it must be dated within 6 months of your wedding date) AND the wedding banns must be posted somewhere. FH is posting them at the church were he was baptized.
By the way, I was told not to tell the priest that you already have a RH booked - they hate that.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Re: Booking a Church
Try St. John the Baptist RCC in Wading River. My FH and I are from Queens, so we also had trouble finding a church. They were very easy to work with and so nice!

Re: Booking a Church
We didn't need anything to book at Mount Sinai Congregational Church. I am not affiliated with this church. I go to church in Smithtown but I thought that was too far of a distance to Giorgios all the way in Baiting Hallow, so we looked for somewhere else. They are very nice.

Re: Booking a Church
We are having our ceremony at St. Isidore RC Church on Pulaski St in Riverhead. It's beautiful inside!! We love it. You do not have to be a member and Fr. Kuznik is great, we love him. He's young and very down to earth. I just needed my baptism cert (I'm not catholic) and FH gave him his baptism cert and confirmation cert.
It's also 5 minutes from the hotels and Atlantis.

Re: Booking a Church
We booked a Church that wasn't ours, but I became a parishoner just so we could book it... it's really easy and unless you have kids (which we don't) who need CCD, it doesn't really matter!

Re: Booking a Church
you will most likely need a 'release letter' if you are getting married at another parish. my parish was booked 18 months in advance.

Re: Booking a Church
we didn't have a problem booking ours 'outside of our parish.' actually it was a piece of cake! our parish gave us a hard time! even though we are getting married in a church(as per our families) i'm so fed up with their 'rules' and 'regulations' they put up so many obstacles in the way of couples who wish to get married in the RC church! and it makes me so frustrated... i could go on, but the more i think about it, the more aggravated it makes me!
