Booking - Again - This weekend
going to the Swan Club on Sunday to set a new date. I'm sad and happy at the same time.
Booking the wedding (the first time) is one of my best memories. It was a happy, beautiful day and both set of parents came with us as well. This is sort of bittersweet. It is just FH and I trying to set a date.
I am so happy I was able to work something out with them. Michael has been so great about all of this. He agreed to keep the same prices for us and we don't have to pay a penalty for changing the date - he just wants us to give him an extra deposit.
Fh and I need to figure out when exactly we want to get married. We like the idea of getting married the Sunday night before Labor Day - or we would never consider a Sunday wedding. Otherwise it will be another Saturday, hopefully in September 2010. I don't like waiting that long (seems like forever), but I would rather wait until we saved up more to have the dream wedding I always wanted as opposed to doing it cheap and regretting not doing all those things.
UPDATE: I booked. Just as I had thought we are getting married the Sunday before Labor Day, Sept 5 2010. I am kind of upset because I think we were lied to at some point during booking.
Basically, Fh and I were planning on having a Saturday night wedding in 2009. When I called they said they would not raise their prices for us for 2010. But Sunday nights are cheaper so we save $10 pp and thought that was better. But Sunday night didn't include Vienesse table - which came with alot of things we likes. Totalling all the things we liked together came out to be $11. So, I thought it would be better to just stick with Saturday night and have everything there to make our lives easier.
The Banquet Manager looked @ our rate and said 'This isn't our Saturday night rate'. He said the rate pp was actually $8 more than the rate in our contract. I said I was not aware that we were given a discount, and that was the rate we were quoted on our first visit and the rate put into the contract when we booked. he said he could no longer honor 'the discount rate' in our contract and would have to charge us the regular Saturday night rate.
I have no idea if we were lied to or just taken for a ride. The bottom line is, they had $4100 worth of deposits from me, so I had no choice but to go along with it or forfeit all the money I'd already given them.
Another thing - they tried to put $4pp for the Maitre 'D on our contract. They removed it after I stated I would pay the Maitre'D the proper amount IN CASH the night of the wedding. Putting it in the contract as a pp has taxes and gratuities added to it. I also have no way of knowing whether or not my Maitre'D actually gets the money or if the house takes it. Furthermore, what incentive does my Maitre'D have to work extra hard knowing I've already paid his fee in advance?
I thought that was very sneaky. I love the grounds @ The Swan Club but every time I go there I just don't get this warm and fuzzy from the Banquet Managers. They seem to double-talk and the only time I ever felt like I was in good hands was when I met with our Maitre'D in person.
