How soon in advance do you / have you booked your florist for your wedding? I'm getting married in Oct. 07, have no idea what color or style the bridesmaid's dresses will be. I happend to call Pedestals and Flower Michele and they told me that they are already booking up for 2008 and that you can book the day without knowing what type of flowers you want. Does this sound normal to you? I always thought that you would have to know exactly what type of flowers you want when you book. I really assumed that a year before would be enought time. Have any of you booked your florist without having knowledge of what type of flower you want.
Thanks!

i agree. I booked my florist in October of 05 for my September 07 wedding. I happen to know exactly what flowers I wanted but I would have booked regardless. My florist only does one wedding per day so...

Re: Booking Florist Question
I booked my florist about 11 months in advance and I have no idea what kind of flowers I want. I am still going through pictures of flowers to try to decide. I booked with Burton's and they have one set price for everyone no matter what type of flowers you pick. I just have to sit down with them 2 weeks in advance and go over all of that with them. I would definitely sit down with florists and see what they say.

Re: Booking Florist Question
I agree that it is good to book your florist, photographer etc. earlier. . . that way you're sure you get who you want and you can be less stressed about it later. . .however, I am a supreme procrastinator and I only just booked my florist last week. My wedding is this June. I ended up going with Verbena Designs, thrilled with the willingness to negotiate and the vibe I got when meeting with Jennifer. However, I had originally considered Pedestals and they were still available for my day. My point being, keep in mind how many weddings/events they do each day and don't let them scare you into reacting before being sure. . . they may be booking up for next year, but how booked does that mean? Know what I mean? Sometimes I think they just want to fill their calendars so if they inadvertantly spark a sense of panic in the bride. . . well, that's okay because in the end they get booked and hopefully the bride is happy. . . Just be diligent. . . take your time. . . and research, research, research. . .make sure you look on the Better Business Bureau just to be even more sure

Re: Booking Florist Question
You don't have to book that far in advance...for our Oct. '05 wedding, we booked our florist in April '05. Most places I called were still available...we used Flower Michele. Hope that helps.

Same here!
I still have no clue exactly what I want either! I thought I did but, when I look at some of these brides beautiful bouquets and centerpieces, I totally change my mind!

Re: Booking Florist Question
I've had my florist booked since last year and the only thing I know is that I can't have roses cause FMIL is allergic. I'm using Flowers Etc . The owner Jola is so nice and she will work with you budget and you'll still get perfect flowers!

I would book sooner rather than later. If you find a good florist, they will be able to work with any colors you eventually pick out.

Re: Booking Florist Question
i don't think you can book too soon -- i believe many florists will only take XXX about of weddings on one particular day and you don't want to miss out on the florist you like best.
To that end, I suggest you visit a few -- maybe think of color schemes and give a rough idea of what you want. Or, they'll always make a few suggestions for you.
I'm using Pedestals -- Rob is great. If you stop by there, definately ask for him.

Re: Booking Florist Question
I think you're fine.... a lot of these vendors book up quickly because they're on sites like these....A good rule of thumb that I followed was to statr looking a year before you get married so you can actually SEE the flowers that will be in season during your wedding. granted, you don't have to get in season flowers , but it's nice to see do-able options that you might not have thought of... plus, they'll be cheaper too if they're in season! I looked at one so far...will probably get off my lazy butt and book soon....but i am doing MINIMAL flowers (no centerpieces and only 3 BM's and me. I don't think there is too much of a rush.... JMO

Wow I haven't looked at any florists yet....I better get on it!
I always thought you needed to know what flowers you wanted too - don't some flowers cost a lot more than others? Like calla lillies are a lot more $ than roses???

Re: Booking Florist Question
I booked in NOv for my july wedding... you are FINE! many places will tell you things like this to rush you... they very well may have booked a 2008 wedding, but I would venture to say that they arent BOOKING UP..it is not as urgent as they make it seem sometimes...ON that note, it would not hrut to start making calls, setting up appts, and seeing what you like and dont like...but I dont seem the RUSH... just have fun!

I am considering The Flower Barn. Has anyone used them? if so, what was your experience with them. Thanks in advance.

You don't have to know what flowers you want at the time of booking. You are booking their time for that particular day. You can order the specific flowers much later. HTH!!

Re: Booking Florist Question
I did almost all my florist shopping in October '05 for October '06 wedding. (I booked a florist in Dec)I knew that picking 'in season' flowers would be less expensive than 'out of season' flowers, but I had no idea what they were. Shopping around during the same month my wedding would take place allowed me to see what is available and in what colors.

Re: Booking Florist Question
I booked Flower Michele in Sept 05 for my July 06 wedding. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, or even my colors, and I found John to be really flexible. I approached finding a florist in more of an interview fashion instead of 'here's what I want, how mu ch?' manner. I found that John had really great ideas and knows a TON about flowers. I felt like he could create something great for me even though I'm kind of clueless about flowers. I think it's almost better to do it without knowing what you want, so you can allow the florist to give you some ideas (and see which ones are the most creative...I thought some of florists I 'interviewed' were totally uncreative, and just wanted me to tell them exactly what I wanted so they could rattle off a price).
He's my favorite vendor...
ETA: I felt like I was a little late booking my florist when I finally got around to it. LA Blossom (which was another of my top choices) was booked already, and so were some other florists I called. I'd say, the earlier the better.
