OK, so me, FH and my mom are going to the RH I would like to book next Wednesday. What do we do? Try to negotiate and write the check for the deposit or just do the deposit and negotiate later? Do we sign the contract then? I mean, it's hard to do during the week (we have to leave work, evenings are NG) and weekends they have weddings so can't meet. I have no idea what to do. Did you guys bring your parents and then go home and discuss what you wanted to negotiate? And then go back again? Please help!! I don't know how to go about this!
Thank you ladies so much!!!!!

Re: Booking help!!! LONG
I'd say its best to try to work everything through now...you will have to sign a contract saying how much you are going to pay per person and what minimum you are guaranteeing so if you were trying to negotiate prices you'd have to do it before you sign...if your plan was to try to negotiate other things thrown in I'd probably still try to do it now but it could also try (again) at the end (like for example if you go way over or way under your minimum you might be able to get them to throw something else in later)...and I say this like I know what I'm talking about but we didn't negotiate anything so it's really just opinion of what I would have done if I didn't freeze up when it came to this kind of stuff HTH!!!

You negotiate, sign a contract and then leave a deposit. Make sure you are completely comfortable with everything (price, service provided...etc.) before you sign the contract. You will not be able to re-negotiate it later.
We didn't bring our parents because it was basically our choice. Even though my parents were giving us some $ towards the wedding. We were allowed to spend it howerver we wanted.
Do you have their pricing already?

Re: Booking help!!! LONG
definitely negotiate first!!! I negotiated before I even told them I was booking with them....I acted like FH & I had it narrowed down to two and I said the other one was cheaper but that we liked their hall better....if they ask you who the other RH is...just tell them you'd rather not say. That's exactly what I did, and we got them down in price a little bit....or at least try to get something extra thrown in. It doesn't hurt to try!!
Good luck!!

Talk it over first, then go back. Get quotes in writing so you can bring it back and show them if you want to book with them. If possible pay with cash, a lot of places will give you a discount if you pay with cash the whole time, Windows is giving us 2% off the entire bill because we are paying in cash. Doesn't sound like much but it all adds up!! ALWAYS GET A RECEIPT!!!

Re: Booking help!!! LONG
if you aren't sure EXACTLY what you want - write that down too!
for example my contract says:
reception - $ reception PLUS viennese - $$ reception PLUS viennese PLUS after hours - $$$
then it says
If a sushi table is included THEN - $$$$
so a few months before we can just pick what we want!! the guy was really nice - but i made him write it all down and i feel much better now!
dont forget to ask for TAX AND TIP included - i almost fell off my chair when i heard that amount ( he kept saying 'before tax and gratuity' so its not like he was scamming me - and i should have kind of figured it out. . . but when i actually heard the amount . . . )
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Booking help!!! LONG
Visit them with your list of questions. Act like any other business decision (I know it's hard). then go home & discuss what you'd like, what works for minimums & such. Then you can either go back later or further negotiate on the phone. Write everything down. Some places will hold your date with a credit card deposit. After that, then you an go in and sign a contract.
Good luck!

Re: Booking help!!! LONG
definitely negotiate before signing anything ...
we went the first time .. and our banquet manager threw in a few things .. we went back a week later and told her we wanted to sign a contract and she threw in more ... for sure do all your negotiating before you sign on the dotted line
