did anyone NOT book their hm through a travel agent?
we went to an agent this past weekend and she wasn't very helpful and i felt like i could get a much better rate through travelocity or even going to the airlines and hotels directly.
what can an agent provide that we couldn't get ourselves?

Re: booking hm on own?
We are doing it ourselves. We have been scouring websites, reviews, TripAdvisor, com, Barnes and Noble (to check out books on possible destinations). I like not having pressure to book something since I keep changing my mind everyday as to where i want to go. Yesterday it was Europe, today it is Costa Rica. I also like knowing all my options as to only a few that a travel agent would present to me. I feel like I'm finding some better hidden gems by doing the research myself, plus I feel l'm learning alot about that country, island, etc. in regards to things to do, food, etc, etc.

We also did it ourselves. Booked airfare and hotels ourselves.
We travel a lot and know what we like and don't like.
I feel like the best way to get info is to talk to people who've been to where ever it is you are going.

That is what I did....
I was quoted about $2500 more for the air/hotel package from a travel agent then booking on my own...so I got it for cheaper and a better package.....

We booked our honeymoon with a travel agent, but did our airfare through sidestep and saved about $1000. we also got the earlier flight that the agent told us wasn't possible to get.

Re: booking hm on own?
we booked everything ourselves... we booked the resort through their reservations department, and the airfare through travelocity or expedia... i forget. we had no problems whatsoever. but, my parents had been to the island before and they were able to tell us things like where to rent a jeep for the day, what sites were good to see, etc.... i kind of agree that you can do most of it on your own... i think a travel agent is helpful when you aren't sure where to go, or want to go to a few different places....

We booked everything on our own. We researched everything and then just did it. You save some money that way. We never use a travel agent for our trips. It's more fun to plan it yourself

I will be booking it on my own. I've worked in travel since I was old enough to work so I book all my trips on my own.

We booked thru a TA because I couldnt afford to pay the whole thing upfront and I didnt know too much about Tahiti. But I say if you are comfortable with booking it yourself and doing the research, do it and save big bucks!!

we just booked our HM yesterday through Expedia. You just need to do your due diligence, trust me, if you can plan a wedding, planning a HM is cake.

Re: booking hm on own?
We did all the research ourselves and priced out a couple of online websites. The travel agent beat the lowest price by $200, so she got our business. Other than that, I did not find her very helpful. I think it is fine to book it yourself if you find the best price!

Re: booking hm on own?
i did.
honestly, i've never gone to a travel agent and was quoted a better price. i think the only advantage is to be able to pay it installments and if you don't like the research...
there's so many resources out there that it's pretty easy to do it on your own.

Re: booking hm on own?
We did. After having an experience w/ the travel agent not being very informative & me knowing more about the places we wanted to visit than she did, I gave up on travel agents years ago.
I've mainly did mega searches & read reviews on tripadvisor.com and got a great deal on our mediterranean cruise & our Ireland hm.

TA's are offered certain specials that individuals can not get. Our travel agent saved us $$ even quoted directly from our resort.
